Fucking go on Shane. He's never played as well as that, just hope the experience from 2016 will stand to him and he can go ahead and close it out.

Outstanding round on a tough course. The lowest 54-hole total in the history of The Open

Excellent golf. Put his foot down on the back nine where most in his position would play to protect and hold what they have. Relentless.

The whole country behind him and 95% of fans out there tomorrow too. I hope it effects him in the right way.

Yes I would like to think that northerners support Lowry the way we support Rory, GMac and Clarke.

Spot on! In golf you need to capitalise when you have one of those days when it all comes together but the temptation to get defensive is hard to resist. Who knows what the weather will do tomorrow so building a big lead was vital

I'd love to see Lowry win it (or Tommy, tbh) but tomorrow is going to be a very different day and you can't count out the likes of Koepka or Rose among others.

Unbelievable golf from Lowry. I was cheering on the English lads but would be well pleased if he gets across the line.

Inspired golf from Lowry this afternoon. Probably only hit one duff shot the whole round.

Great golf by Lowry. Played very sensibly all round, bar the blip at the end of the front 9.

Immense pride in an Irishman winning the open in our homeland.

On the 18th green, needing to get down in 7. I reckon I might manage that! :cautious:

Well played Mr Lowry.

Can't imagine there is a finer moment for a golfer than to walk down the 18th fairway knowing that you are Champion Golfer of the Year and get to lift the Claret Jug.

Brilliant final round by Lowry, looked practically nerve-less.

Fleetwood played well but couldn't get the putts to drop. Very enjoyable tournament, but then the Open usually is. Love it when the wind and rain gets up, great to see the pro's struggle a bit...very relate-able ;)

The only bad bit about watching JB Holmes shoot an 87 was that we had to sit through him lining up 15 more shots than normal

Was in Portrush throughout the tournament it was buzzing there. Fantastic venue even with the mixed weather.
