And I think that's a fair comment but I would then say dont have a backup striker then. Allow son and Lucas to fill in and sign a creative attacker with the wages your not wasting or foreign place your taking up. When llorente has started games up top he struggled was ok as an impact sub but not really something I think we need.

I don't know, I think Llorente is handy to have around for European ties - these continental defences don't know how to deal with a lanky bastard who's all elbows.

Sess and GLC should free up the likes of Son and Moura to cover up front, but Llorente still should have been upgraded by now.

As others have said, we've left ourself far too much to do this window, and this is just one of many compromises we're going to have to make.

You'd spend a minimum of 25m upgrading Llorente. That's 25m out of our budget for LoCelso, or all of our budget for Sessegnon. Maybe Troy Parrott is ready to step up into that role, but in the meantime, as I said before, Llorente is covering that situation til we find out.

It was pretty obvious that he’d get offered a new contract since we never announced him leaving like Vorm. He was just as important to the Ajax game as Moura so he was hardly a waste of space just for that game alone

Would be up for resigning, obviously wont play much, bar cup games, or as a plan B, but his a good person to have around the team, seems a great guy with a lot of experience. Didnt he finish as our best player for goals and assists per minute last season?
A goal or assist every 95 minutes is very impressive

That stat is highly influenced by his annual hat trick against league 2 opposition.

No problem at all keeping him, he can do a job in certain games he bullied de ligt second leg, if it allows us to spend in other areas Iam all for it. He can pass some of his knowledge onto Parrott aswell

I'm against bringing him back but if we absolutely had to (as a last resort) i'd hope we've made enough other attacking signings that he would never have to start a game for us. Impact sub is the most he can offer now. He hurt my eyes in the West Ham and Brighton games at home last season. Janssen did more in both those outings in under 10 minutes.

He certainly can play a role - but it was Blind he bullied in that game. Blind has always struggled with taller forwards and was exposed defending against them when playing for Man Utd.

I have to say , whilst he was absolutely crucial to turning the games against City and Ajax around, his general hold up play when replacing Kane has been poor. I don't think his heading has been great either.

But equally - he chips in with important goals, we probably haven't played to his strengths that last season and with no decent alternatives available, I wouldn't be against keeping him as he gives us a Plan B.

Keeping him might indicate our formation preferences next season. If we sign Lo Celso too, then I think we’ll see a 4312 and 4222 set up. People have been speculating about a 433 but we’re not buying additional wide forwards to cover/rotate with Lucas and Son. It seems we’re investing in CM and AM positions, which makes me think we’re playing two strikers.

Kane/Son/Lucas/ Llorente and even Dele could cover that. Plus there’s been talk of Parrot getting more game time too

We have Son, Lamela and Lucas who can also play up front. Spending big on a Kane back-up would be a waste of money.
Oof. :wtf:

Ah right, now I see where you were going with that.

Don't understand why anyone would be opposed to Llorente re-signing. He's a useful squad player who obviously gets along well with all, has gobs of experience, and offers something different to what else we have. To re-sign him for a year to bridge the gap while investing in other areas makes total sense.

Have to prioritize needs. Buy a backup striker who may not be happy in limited minutes for 20 million or resign Llorente who we know is a good dressing room guy and won’t cost a dime out of transfer kitty. It’s a no brainer for me.

Let's just hope Kane's ankle stands up.
I couldn't take seeing Llorente up top
A year older and a year slower - if that's possible.

Not overly bothered if we sign him or not because it's become clear signing another forward isn't a priority, but I really think his CL contributions, whilst still very valuable and memorable, have overshadowed how he was completely useless 90% of the time.
