Good start Rory.

OB off the tee. Then hack down the fairway looking more like me than a golfer. Quadruple bogey on hole 1.

Anyone have money on him?

I spent 24hrs deciding between him and Koepka for one of my bets. Went for Koepka on the basis that a) Rory was too short at 8’s and that I think the pressure on him was going to be too much.

Obviously breathing a sigh of relief now.

Have Rahm, Scott, Cantley, Stenson and Leishman as well.

Koepka is a good e/w bet in every major at the moment.

Rahm is a bit like Rory for me - he can win any tournament but he can also disappear pretty quickly. It'll be interesting to see which one he does this week.

Rory 5 over after 3. Not good. He needs a couple of birdies bloody quick. A couple of pars would help!

Was always a no brainer imo. Can't get my head round how koepka is not a clear favourite every major. And Rory always seems to have a bad round in him. Didn't think he had it in him to do this badly though.

Was pleased to see David Duval at -2

A shame about the subsequent quadruple bogey, and the octuple bogey. And all the other bogeys so that he ended +19.

According to my app the 13 he had at one of the par 5’s has now been adjusted to a 14. So that’s a nice round +20.

Would be surprised if that isn’t the worst round of his professional career.

Bummer. That extra shot could mean he misses the cut ...

Anyone over for this? I have tickets for tomorrow and Saturday and was up in the Port today. Weather is changeable but warm and balmy. I was talking to Darren Clarke last week Andy was well chuffed for him to tee off, he’s the only NI golfer I have time for. Have to say Royal Portrush has done us proud.

Rory with an 8 at the first

He simply doesn’t have the head for it, I think he will come good again when he’s more mature, simply a case of too much too young. He talks a good game but chokes.

Rory needs a proper caddy. Having your best friend on the bag is fine for us casuals but not at the level he's at or should be at. Someone like Steve Williams or Colin Byrne would sort it all out for him.

It’s not so absurd once you have money riding on them ;).

I find I still end up supporting nationality. I'll naturally favour the English, then then Brits and then the Europeans thanks to the Ryder Cup, then Woods in that order!

Then it's generally who offers the best story. Woods winning the Masters was amazing, I'd love Westwood to win here but any Brit will do!

Haha - now that I know that

I am supporting you dude

Ok fuck it seeing as Mcilroy is pretty much fucked - who you put money on? Ill support him.

Well I’ve got money on 8 of them :D. So take your pick from Koepka, Rahm, Hatton, Stenson, Cantley, Kucher, Scott and Leishman.

Although Leishman and Scott won’t make the cut.

Should have been a par at worst.

Good reaction though; if I'd seen two shots run back past me (and I have) my third go would have been so far over the other side of the green that I'd have needed a taxi to reach it!

Yeah did well to get out without "a McIlroy" there.
