The PL season starts in less than a month’s time.

Sess is currently recovering from injury and if we do sign him during this TW, I hope he recovers in time for the start of the season.

Rose & Toby may leave during this window.

Davies is currently recovering from his op and hopefully he’s match fit for our first game. Likewise Dier & Aurier (if he stays).

Trippier is gone and Foyth is banned for our first two games.

If we don’t sign any defenders during this TW, and Rose & Toby leave, I wonder which defenders would start / be on the bench, against Villa as we’re running very thin in our defence.

That said, I’m optimistic that there would be a silver lining somewhere for us when the season starts. ?
Assuming Rose and Toby are sold and Dier, Davies, Sessegnon, and Aurier are not yet available due to their injuries/operations, we could legitimately be looking at this back line (from left to right) until Foyth's suspension is up:

Vertonghen -- Sanchez -- CCV -- KWP

That is absolutely fucking dire. I understand that we've got to build the squad with a long-term vision in mind, but if we have to play the first two matches of the season with that back line I think it's fair to say that we simply do not have the necessary squad depth. We cannot realistically expect players already in the squad to replace both Trippier and Toby, and to have a teenager who hasn't played left back since 2017 be our Rose replacement. We would need at least one senior defender to come in.

No sure how anyone can feel positive about how Spurs currently find themselves.

If you are to evolve then change has to be part of it, bar ndombele nothing has evolved.

Three weeks to the day the window shuts over here, from an outside perspective we have a shit tonne of work to do.

I definitely feel positive. We still have a great squad and the world's best manager.

You just named 7 players that we could be without. How often does that happen?
Dier should be fit for when the squad comes back from asia. It doesn't look like toby is leaving.
What if gazza and lloris get injured? We'd be fucked!
We can't buy hundreds of players to cover every contingency. We have a squad of 25 and the youth. If that is not good enough tough titty. You do your best.

Agree. It’s constantly one step forward two steps back. We’ve finally strengthened CM but now this season we will probably be left weaker at CB / LB potentially even RB.

It never seems like we manage to complete the team and have strength across all areas and the annoying thing is it hasn’t needed a City like splurge to achieve it. We were left woefully short last season in CM, before that it was wide forwards, next season I’m sure we will be left woefully short in another key position.

I'm no longer in the teams which used to deal directly with the football clubs, but am. Third handily told we want first choice players in first choice positions. Not sure if that counts as JF switching, but round pegs in round holes was the jist of a coffee this morning.

As a I said, Moved jobs so the degree of seperation has increased so pls don't treat as ITK. But the tone has been positive and gaps plugged.

Well I feel that's good for you then, and I think we do have one of the worlds best managers, thing is you need quality on the pitch to manage ...

What quality is different today than we had in the CL final?

We replaced Dembele finally with one of the most promising midfielders in world football. We sold our starting RB, but he is aging and we need to push onward and forward without him. The same goes for Danny Rose if and when he does leave. We do need to buy at least 1 other player I feel, but if we don't and Eriksen and Toby stay, we still have a fantastic squad.

A lot of time for things to get done yet. It's not as if we're at ground zero with all our targets. A lot of work has been put in, I'm sure, on many of our targets and outgoings and it takes time to iron out details of who is going where.

Fair assessment, but the 'ifs' in there are troubling.

I'll heed your point and also cease this debate and discussion here because we're most likely going to derail a thread.

Let's hope that there is more going on behind the scenes that any of us not in the know will ever know about and fingers crossed it's positive.

For a few games last season we were so short of options that we were playing Davies, sixth choice, at CB. Taking that group of defenders, we'd be selling Toby Trippier and Rose (3/4 of our first choice options from last season) and replacing them with... one hugely talented teenager who's never played in defense at the Premier League level.

I just don't see how we can sell three of our starting defenders from last season and not replace them with a single signing who is ready to step in and play. We were already stretched a bit thin. It seems a near certainty that Foyth is the Trippier replacement, so for me if Toby goes then we've got to replace him with a new signing.

Hate to break it to you mate their is not a team on the planet that is complete. That's why every summer even the biggest teams make transfers. Players get old or run contracts down. You juggle the best you can.

The thing is most of you bring this on yourselves. You go into a window read a bit of itk then get all hyped and set unachievable expectations. When they don't happen (or not as quick as you'd like) you get all depressed and moan. I have no sympathy.

The club is doing the best it can. It doesn't want to be in the same position as arsenal. All their players running down their contracts and leaving for free. So it is cashing in on rose and trippier.

Trippier's gone already. Val just said today that we want shot of Toby. Rose has been left home from the preseason tour to facilitate a move. Do those deals really seem so unlikely?

We're three weeks away from the season beginning, and none of Davies, Dier, Aurier, or Sessegnon are even available to train. Again, is it so unlikely that we may be without them for some time?

Selling three quarters of the starting back line from last season and not bringing in a single ready-made replacement would be madness.
