This screams of Eriksen not going to Madrid and we wont lower our price for him so therefore they wont allow Ceballos to join us.

No idea why we bother with Madrid. This happens every fucking summer. Players don’t want to leave as they are the pinnacle of club football and Madrid hardly ever need or want to sell. We end up wasting our time chasing their players to no avail and it happens every year.

Do we though? I mean we might have one phone call and ask madrid to keep us informed of the situation and then move on to other targets. We don't know how much chasing we actually do.

I think other than VDV every attempt to sign a player from Madrid has been a complete and utter waste of time

I still find it a big leap to expect us to add Lo Celso without sacrificing Eriksen. After buying Ndombele already, that’s a huge outlay.
Madrid seem to have gone a bit cold on Eriksen, maybe the fee Levy is asking is the reason.
The most probable outcome still seems to be to be a trade, Eriksen to Madrid, Ceballos and Mariano Diaz to us. Ceballos would add sole class to our midfiels, and Diaz would add another dynamic forward to the mix, one capable of playing centrally or wider.

I find this a little strange as their squad is totally unbalanced. Moving him on seems to solve a lot of their problems.

I get the feeling that he doesn't really want to leave, if his dream is to make it with Madrid i don't see the point in this signing.

Great potential but not worth signing anymore players who see us as a stepping stone.

if he is not interested in joining us then we should just go for other targets, he is not the only young CM with high potential in the market (and we have already signed one of the best )

Was gonna say the same. How many players of their's have we even been seriously linked to? Only one I can remember is Isco and even that was just mostly through some of the media.

I can't remember genuinely thinking we might buy any of their players before now with Ceballos.

I believe we are a much more attractive proposition or destination now for RM players than we were about 10 years ago when VDV arrived.

At this point I just want Eriksen to go and us get a quality replacement like Ceballos. I just don't see how Eriksen rediscovers his form if the move fails this summer.

It isn't if you spread that over two summers though. We didn't spend a thing last transfer window, and surely we didn't only have 35m to spend in each? We were after de Jong so there was 70m or so available last window too. It all adds up

Hasn’t it been stated several times that the loan request is because he doesn’t want his current management benefitting from a permanent transfer.

I still don't understand the thinking behind this. If he goes on loan with an option to buy then surely the agent would still get a percentage as they've arranged the deal? If it's a loan without the option to buy then he's risking his next move just because he wants to change agents.

Hmm the Ceballos and Eriksen deals did seem to be interlinked. Does make you wonder if RM are refusing to push for Eriksen now. On the other hand it could also be them playing poker.

Kinda hope Eriksen being back at Spurs, Poch seemingly keen on him staying, Ndombele in as an early statement of intent, maybe he could be convinced to stay and sign a new deal after all? Throw in a 100m clause or similar for RM/Barca if that's what it takes.

Or they just don't think he's better than what they already have available?

IMO LoCelso and Ceballos is a bit of overkill and between the 2 of them I'd rather get LoCelso. If we keep Eriksen and don't get Ceballos I'm cool with that.
