Just watched a YT compilation of him for the first time. From what I saw in the video, he seems to be solely a central midfielder and not someone who either joins in the attack or sits deep in the holding role. Tempering my expectations of the video highlights accordingly (i.e. not going to have a go for the video not being chock full of goals and assists etc), I thought he looked competent but not anything at all special, and I didn't see any particular facets to his game that made me wish he was a Spurs player.

I appreciate that he's unlikely to be a complete dud if he's playing games for Real Madrid, but from the little I have seen he just looks a bit Harry Winks-lite, and while it couldn't hurt to have another Winks in our squad, I'm not especially excited by the prospect of him signing.

I'm sure I'm probably being an idiot and missing some obvious talent that everyone else can see, but do any more informed posters than me have a sales pitch on him that might put me straight?

I’d say he’s more a player who you’d appreciate by watching him for 90 minutes than from a highlights reel. In that respect there’s a similarity with Winks in that he’s a knitter, but more of an 8/10 whereas Winks is more of a 6/8. I’d not have them as a CM2, but I could see them working in a CA3 with a third more dynamic midfielder (Sissoko, Ndombele) or in a 4231 with the same three players but Ceballos playing in the AM3. You’d need to have athletic players complementing them though. Son, Lucas, Ndombele, Sissoko, Dele, etc. Also, like Winks, Ceballos could make a good foil for any of Dier, Sissoko or Ndombele.

While Winks is great for ensuring control of the ball, this guy is more about changing the pace at which we use it.

I guess it depends on how we play next season. Poch does seem to like to change things up each season to give us an extra dimension.

Update from Herc in the ITK Discussion Thread...

Wasn’t putting this in the ITK thread. But decided best I do, rather than player thread.

Our Daniel would never entertain fattening a cow for someone else to eat. Very bad business. Only with ‘Option’ in our favour. And that goes for any player! I would suggest this player is being ushered to us by RM, and for us to accept. Then they press the button for their local rag to put this out there.

We do have a very good relationship with them mind you. That is why I said ‘All eyes on RM’. Little way to go.

Subject matter is the player/s being leaked to the media that we have agreed as ‘loan only’.

I think Herc's ITK confirms what most in this thread were thinking; we're not going to help out another team if there's nothing in it for us.

I guess the risk is that DC spends a year with us and then refuses to sign permanently.

However, if the deal helps us get a decent fee for Eriksen, who only has a year left on his contract, then that's a risk I'd be willing to take.

Also, we do get the services of a good player for a season and as long as he's committed then that's all good. He'd probably be free as well (no loan fee, no paying his wages).

I guess we are asking the player to give up on a dream by leaving Real Madrid so maybe he feels if they sack Zidane a new manager might want him so he may have asked for it to be a loan to cover that scenario. As Hercules says I can't see us wanting that so we have to convince him to commit permanently.

Then again, maybe he falls in love with Poch and his vibe, and decides that it's a much better place to ply his trade as a player. Who knows?

It was mentioned also that he has fallen out with his agent/management. His deal ends with them next summer, therefore they wouldn’t get a windfall in a years time when any transfer would be completed (if a loan with option went through).

Is it possible that any deal for Ceballos is being structured as an initial loan to allow more time for us to negotiate with RM for Eriksen, whilst also insuring us against overspending?

Maybe RM have indicated that they're interested in doing a deal for Eriksen but may have to wait until later in August, as they have already spent a fortune and need time to make some sales first. Obviously that would not work too well for us as our window closes 3 weeks earlier.

Maybe we're willing to pay £45 million (or whatever) for Ceballos this summer, but ONLY if Eriksen is sold. By taking Ceballos on loan initially, with an option to buy, it gives RM an extra 3 weeks to put together a deal for CE. If a deal for CE then doesn't materialise, we can either cancel the Ceballos loan or keep him on and decide next summer if we still want buy him.

Hard to argue with this!

No way in hell would we ever cancel a loan after 3 weeks. Imagine the fallout among the fans if we sent a signing back before they even played for us.

Good thinking dude. That could well be it except for the cancelling the loan bit, can’t see that happening. We’d just keep him.

I'm not sure about that. I'm no expert, but I would have thought that if his current agent agrees a deal that includes an option to buy then they would be entitled to a fee when the deal goes through, even if it's after their partnership ends.

I think he just means when the loan spell terminates after a year.

The Bin Dippers rumoured to be after him in today's media. Don't buy this when they already have Henderson, Ox, Keita, Fabinho etc...

Unless they are the new Chelsea and collect players to stop rivals buying.

Onda Cero radio last night: “This week Raul Sanllehí met with Jose Angel Sanchez... There were two names on the table, Dani Ceballos, who won’t go to Arsenal, he’ll go to Tottenham, and Lucas Vázquez. Emery really wants him. There’s a offer of 30m and Madrid want at least 35m”

Apparently Onda Cero are meant to be reliable

Real are such a weird club, this guy looks pretty talented with bags of potential. Are they really going to let him go in part of a swap deal? Even if it’s just a loan with an option to buy.

I’ve seen this reported/ repeated in quite a few places. Surely that isn’t true though? If he agreed on a loan-to-buy, everything would have been agreed and signed under his current agency, so surely they would get the windfall once it goes through even if they no longer represent him? They did the work in negotiations after all.

Onda Cero are "Tier 3" (in line with Marca) so not bad, but not great either
