We should be aiming to add this kind of quality to the first team, it shows ambition. If it upsets other midfielders, then it’s simple, up your game! This sort of signing should lift the squad mentality as well as quality, not deflate it and cause internal problems. If we were linked to Pogba on £600k a week, I could see the problem, but not Lo Celso for £80-120k. I also think the sudden rumours that we have to sell before buying him, contradicting earlier ITK, is just so Betis play ball and re-think their asking price, hence the calming of this link.

Apples and onions etc etc

ITK gave info on our targets, if 1 or 2 of those signings cost more than we hoped for, then you then sometimes have to accept player 4 won't come, especially if the club want 20m more. the club has a budget if players cost more it doesn't mean you just add extra to that budget

Yeah, but you’re confusing the wrong ITK info to this player. That info you’re quoting was for RB, CB etc... We were told by ITK that Lo Celso’s purchase was not linked to Eriksen’s potential sale. ??

no originally Hercules said that Sess, Ndombele and GLC + 1 youth could be done without selling Eriksen. if Ndombele has cost us more or between the 3 of them, with Betis asking for 20m more than we expected then it makes a big difference. ITK are told we should be able to afford them, but are not told the exact budget or the exact fee we hoped when we got the info originally.

he then said we would have to sell to replace players that leave

Players are not considered an asset like a house in the financials. Their value is amortised over their contract and decreases as the contract runs down.
Our wages to turnover is the best in the prem.

Exactly, they are more like cars than property

Contract running down has an effect, but market forces (neymar to PSG for instance) and improving in ability and performance increase a players value. Dele signed for 5 million, one year later he was worth 10x that.

Which is not recognised on the financials. The financials only recognise a players value as how much he cost and how much left he has left on his contract.

I didn’t realise that.

Surely even with amortisation each increment would merely reduce the value of the asset, rather than cease that asset from existence?

Yes. If you buy a £10m player on a 5 year contract his value will depreciate by £2m each year. In his last year if he signs a new contract his value would be £2m that would decrease again over the spread of his new contract.

we need GLC to put some pressure to Betis
It's interesting because Betis supporters keep bringing up Dani Ceballos in their discussions about this transfer. He pushed his way out of the club and left a sour taste in many of their mouths. He has been discussed as one of their GLC replacements, and many are unsure if they would welcome him back. Some are not convinced that GLC would do the same, after seeing how Ceballos was regarded after his forcing a departure.

Just scored to give Argentina a 2-0 lead against Venezuela.
A good run to make himself open, but Aguero didn’t see him so he took a shot himself, Lo Celso scored the rebound.

If he was English and under 20 years old that would have been the best goal @BringBack_leGin had ever seen

Don’t be a dick. I’ve ample examples of huge excitement at the prospect of signing Lo Celso, quotes below for your pleasure, in this thread. Just because I happen to think I’ve seen something special in another player that you perhaps haven’t, it doesn’t justify you behaving like a buffoon.

Hopefully this one happens. By far the most exciting current link.

Like Eriksen he’s an 8/10 hybrid, but probably more so as he has a bit more steel and his passing from deep is excellent. Bernardo Silva is the best comparison I’ve seen anyone make, but he’s more of a goal threat in my opinion and has a bit more flair.

If we get him I’m convinced he’ll be an absolute hit.

I’d prefer Lo Celso every time (to Fernandes) but Fernandes is nothing like Paulinho, he’s an excellent dribbler in tight spaces with fantastic technique, quick feet and quicker thought.

It is possible to be equally excited about a young talent who you think will hit the greatest heights and a ready made class player, or at least it is to anybody who isn’t deliberately obtuse, ritually obnoxious and wholly unable to engage with anything he doesn’t understand.

Only the 2nd time I've seen him and I can see why Poch likes him, hard worker, good touch, intelligent runs. He's still raw but he's young and a fair few years away from his prime.

Foyth really impressed with one really incisive through ball just before the 2nd goal, although got caught with the ball just after too, when quite high up the pitch but he's going to be a quality player.

Someone who I was also impressed with was the "Venezuelan Messi" Yeferson Soteldo who I suspect will be brought to Europe after a year or two at Santos who recently bought him

FFS people are becoming so sensitive on here. It's just a joke. I admire your happiness at signing Clarke and you clearly know a lot about him, but if I or anyone else takes the piss every once in a while, it's not malicious.

Agreed, the ITK about getting Ndombele, Lo Celso, Sessegnon and Clarke without having to move Eriksen, was probably based on agreeing fees at a set range. Suddenly if those players clubs ask above what we budgeted for, then the plan has to change.
Maybe that’s why Lo Celso has been shelved temporarily, but once additional sales are made, space & cash is freed up to go back in.
Alternatively if we feel there is a deal to be done on a younger Plan B that leaves additional funding elsewhere, then maybe that’s a viable option, so long as the timing is soon. This is where I see the Elimas links.
Moving to plan B isn’t the end of the world if we move proactively, rather than chase plan A for way too long, and then with the window about to shut, find Plan B and C have already gone elsewhere, and since Poch doesn’t want plan D, we’ll just have to muddle through without.
FWIW, I’d sacrifice Lamela, he surely still has suitors in Italy, then bring in Lo Celso and maybe Skov Olsen as a punt. Alternatively, I like the look of Elimas, looks to have tenacity, athleticism and technique.
