Juanmi would be the man to replace him then, a second striker by trade.

Just looking at the Betis Squad. Didn’t know that Camerasa (was on loan at Cardiff) played for them. Thought he was pretty decent this season and would seem a type replacement they already have

He looked poor tonight against Paraguay I have to say

Poor may be a step too far - thought he was one of the few Argentina players who looked half decent or like they cared at all - but he certainly didn’t look like a 60M player in that game.

He was essentially a deep lying CM (alongside Paredes) with license to go forward. Definitely the tidiest of the Argentinian players but in that team no one will shine. The fact they still rely heavily on Di Maria and Otamendi says it all really. I hope they get knocked out so, if our interest is true, we can wrap this up quicker than expected.

He didn’t look super comfortable playing in a deeper lying role, looked much better when he got on the ball and could dribble or playing short one touch passes. Work rate is good and he has a willingness to get stuck in. I won’t judge him playing out of position for an Argentina team still basically in crisis.

That otamendi penalty tackle is one of the worst I have seen in recent years

I think it's hard to judge him in either role, AM/CM, tonight. Like you say, the team is in crisis. Think it starts with their defence, and it impacts their cohesion as a team.

Their backline is so slow, no pace or width from WBs, no ball carriers from defence, Foyth would have helped in that regard. That defence is so vulnerable to both counter attacks and an offensive press. Both stronger and weaker teams have plenty to give them hope against Argentina.

There was little linking play from defence to midfield to the forwards. The whole set up is off and everyone looked lost. First half Lo Celso hardly had a touch as an AM because CMs had no control. Messi was forced to go back sometimes to try and gain some hold in the middle of the park.

Second half Lo Celso started playing as a CM and actually saw more ball. Thought he did ok there. When Di Maria was subbed on, Lo Celso was pushed forward as AM support on the right. He had spaces to run into when that right flank was stretched.

All in all, a totally discombobulated Argentina with no cohesion where no-one stood out including Messi. Don't think it's fair to judge Lo Celso too much in either role he played tonight given the whole context. Still confounds me how Aguero doesn't get a start, but I guess that's Argentina these days.

Hopefully colombia let paraguay win 3-0 and qatar hold firm against argentina and we hold firm and get him relatively cheaper.

Would love that :)
Unfortunately however, i don't think Argentina's (or Lo Celso's) performance in this competition will make the least bit of difference to Betis.
But, i do agree that a disheartened Lo Celso might just push his agent to hassle Betis to get things done more quickly.

(....BTW this is me playing devils advocate. On the outside i'm trying not to get my hopes up.....but on the inside i'm all 'Sign him, sign him, oh god please sign him...SIGN HIM NOW!!!') :p

It's not about that, it's just that it's more difficult to agree a deal whilst he's away at the competition, so the sooner Argentina are out, the quicker we can work to agree a transfer.

You know we agree the transfer with the club and the players agent. We only need the actual player for the medical and contract signing

If their valuation is the release clause (from anyone) then they are in dreamland.

It's probably not.

They'll most likely ask for an amount that will cover getting a decent replacement in, as well as another player for the squad.

On that note, have any replacements for Lo Celso for Betis been touted?

Yeah probably true, and not much more than whatever the current bid is. From a page or so back they have that Camerasa guy back from Cardiff that looked decent, and they are closing in on two other attackers. GLC played most games as #10 for Betis I believe so could well be replacements.
