Quite obvious that whilst we’ve performed incredibly well ‘scouting’ those potential bargains, to take the next step we have to be more ballsy otherwise we’ll continue to be nearly men, or even regress.

These signings (or similar) will happen imo as if not then we lose the manager, start losing players and all goes tits up.

Levy isn’t stupid and won’t risk us financially (probably the most sensible, risk averse chairman in the league) so get the ‘we can’t afford it’ out your head. Liverpool showed us last summer what is possible, CL winners and very unlucky not to win the league.

I was gutted after Madrid but already looking forward with optimism that we can really kick on now

No not at all. But there is a difference in going for players at the right time based on a good scouting system. You sign them on potential before the market catche on rather then getting caught in a bidding war or being held to ransom. Betis know we have no choice. This is a Poch target. Levy is doing his best to acquire the player but its breaking our operating model. Is Lo Celsco worth 70M or 80M quid? I think he is a 50M player max. I think once Poch works his magic we will see an incredible talent. The question is do we pay over the odds now?
Poch has EXPLICITLY said we need to change the way we operate.

The inference was that we need to occasionally pay the going rates for great players who are first choice for the manager, rather than settling for second or third.

The scouting and identification of rough diamonds and youth prospects will continue, but we sometimes have to pay the going rate for top class.

We are moving into that small band of clubs that can attract and retain top talent (should we wish), actually ahead of schedule.

Btw - your opinion on the price of a player is of no consideration. It’s the buying/bidding and selling clubs opinions that matter.

If CE stays, we will still try to finalise both (cross fingers and all that)
The year is 2074, a near death Univarn is still searching for Lo Celso to Spurs rumors on Google while Danbot KilledallthePatricks writes another piece on how Spurs hope to complete their first transfer in 56 years.

Am I taking crazy pills to think we could sign Eriksen to a new deal AND sign both Lo Celso & NDombele?

I'm not sure how they plan on managing the players they need to offload on ridiculous wages (Bale and James to name a few) and bring in all their targets. They've already spent £139.50m on Jovic, Eder, and Rodrygo. Add in a possible £100m for Hazard and you have to wonder how much more they can spend under FFP without outgoings.

While I'd love to keep Eriksen, I don't love the idea of him seeing himself stuck at Tottenham and dreaming of a move that isn't happening.

Wow, how would we fund both and a RB if Eriksen stays? CL money and not spending last summer is one thing, but this would put us in the United/City levels of net spend

Personally believe we will not see Ndombele, Lo Celso and Eriksen in the same team next season.

Have to imagine that CE transfer saga could run until late in the summer, and we likely want Lo Celso and NDombele done early...which means we would need to be willing to take them both even without CE's incoming transfer fee.

Is it safe to come back into this thread now?
Or are the insults still flying about like toys from a pram?!

Jeez, I'm not going to complain about us seemingly wanting to spend the money required to compete at the top.
Every player was cheap once, we cant buy them all and some just get better than others.
