I literally do all I can to not say anything personal about any particular member, but you're literally arguing with/quoting a moron.

This thread, the ratings thread, it doesn't matter. It's bullshit criticism and negativity from him/her/it.

Can't take any joy from one of the most heroic & memorable moments in the clubs history, would rather look for something to moan about that detracts from what has been achieved.

Absolute helmet.
Agree. Laying into Trippier now is a bit like turning up to a wedding to spout off about how the marriage will never last rather than joining everyone else in having a good time.

They're some people who, I don't understand why they watch football anymore because they clearly don't enjoy it, I had my dad ranting to me when Silva made it 2-2 about how shit we are and I had to say fuck off, we're going toe to toe with a team competing for a quadruple. Just fucking enjoy it. I enjoy analysing players and having debated and giving paolo shit but these moments are so so few for spurs fans, I've never experienced anything last night but I regularly know the feeling of seeing Sterling score and pep celebrate following spurs and England. I've never felt such joy being a football fan, it's not my achievement it's there's and it still feels like one of the best experiences of my life.

its not really that weird that people express opinions about trippier in the trippier thread.

Let me rephrase, it's pathetic to focus on the negatives when we just had one of the greatest moments in our history and I question whether football is a healthy outlet for people who want to focus on the negatives after such a monumental evening.

Indeed, the player watch threads are purely about the player and their performance in games hence the "watch" bit

Plenty of threads purely about celebrating the victory if you don't like reading player critique after a positive result

I think it's weird that we have one of the best footballing games of all time, the best result in at least 30 years for spurs and people choose to pick apart one persons performance over getting carried away. I don't understand why people can't just enjoy last night and the next couple of days. This feeling is so rare for spurs.

Thanks for proving my point. This is a thread about Trippier...so surprise surprise, people are talking about just that. The justified eulogizing about last night is being done elsewhere.

When did this place become so full of virgins.

Is it a weird or is it just human nature to bask in glory rather than dig out individual players? He had a poor game (as did many) but that was far from my mind when the final whistle went.

And that's fine...it wasn't mine either, and i doubt it was anyone's. We should always be looking to improve, and the player threads give us an opportunity to discuss individuals' performances; good and bad.

Indeed. Then again, those who are unable to resist focusing on the negatives, or calling out the shit players, should also be making the same comments in the threads for Rose, Alli, Eriksen, Lloris etc etc, as they were equally as poor as Trippier last night.

Yet, despite that, unsurprisingly, they're not.

Great result yes, but we still need to improve at Right back.

Outside the obvious wtf that is our central midfield. Right back seems to be our weakest link.

Wan-Bissaka would be ideal but can’t say us competing with some of the other clubs who want him.

He's atrocious defensively. He can be ok when we sit deep and are penned in (like the second half), because his poor positioning and lack of pace isn't so exposed. He's also alright if you dominate the ball against weaker teams.

But if you play a top side and you want to press and be proactive, he is absolutely awful.

No doubt in my mind we need an urgent upgrade on him. His defending for Sterling's first was just so so poor, so too for Sterling's second. he didn't even make an effort to close down Sterling's shot, this is in the opening few minutes of the biggest game of his club career, I mean wtf?! he just let Sterling shoot, like Trippier didn't have a care in the world. This on top of all the other gaffes he has made this season, no thank you.

Watching Walker last night, he's twice the player Trippier is.

This is a parody account. Has to be.

The need for balance has literally been the basis for my posting in this thread. I questioned why some folk can't remain objective when considering a player's performance within the context of a momentous occasion for the club. You say just enjoy the game. I say let's concentrate on the player given it's the player thread. You have a little cry and give your post a 4* review.

Indeed. We also need to improve at LB, CM, DM, whatever position Lamela plays in etc etc.

There's a fair bit that needs to be worked upon & I genuinely don't think a single person believes otherwise.

It's just the constant calling out of individual players that riles up a few members on here. Mostly because, on the whole, those naysayers are nowhere to be seen when those ridiculed individuals have a good performance, or even good moments among the bad ones.

I'd wager most people that had something negative to say about trippier in the thread where you are supposed to judge trippier said plenty of positive things elsewhere. you make it sound like a zero sum game - you can only be negative or positive.

No my issue is more with people focus on the negative and not giving a balanced account, I'm not saying he didn't fuck up, he did, I also felt he took a superb corner to get us back ahead and he defended well vs Sane towards the end and was our outlet. My issue is more people couldn't wait to rush on here and slate him and the vast majority of it wasn't constructive whatsoever. Trust me I'm not a huge lover of Trippier and I'm hopeful for an upgrade in the summer but the way people can't wait to rush in is astounding to me after a night like last night. I think the players were still celebrating on the pitch when people jumped in here.

That's the thing though. Is he atrocious defensively? Or is he annoyingly inconsistent?

Don't forget, that same atrocious defender kept Sterling quiet a week ago and, not too long before that, handled the very difficult Zaha very well indeed.

The lad can have brilliant performances, they're just too few & far between.

He's not consistently able to provide the level of performances that we require if we intend to keep improving on the pitch, but whether people like it or not, he's been pretty much a mainstay in a Tottenham team that has had it's highest league finishes for decades, achieving consecutive CL football along the way.

Everyone in the world is a hypocrite in some form or other. The fact that someone doesn't post about how poor player X was doesn't mean they can't post about how poor player Y was. I don't understand the Trippier defence force. Most players aren't all good or all bad. Trippier has his strengths but although he has some good games, he is consistently bad defensively. He was awful last night against Sterling. He didn't even bother closing him down for the first goal, and for their third he completely lost Sterling. That's just not good enough at this level.

Watching Walker last night, he's twice the player Trippier is.

The only thing he has on Trippier is pace. Which is important at the position they play, but I wouldn’t say he’s twice the player. Don’t get me wrong, Walker is good, I don’t think he’s good enough for City though, and he’s been found out a few times playing for them. He makes the same errors and has the same lapses in concentration that Trippier does it’s just that in some cases his physicality and pace can get him out of trouble.

Long story short, Sterling would have made mince meat of Walker as well if he’d been playing for us last night.

Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if Walker is available in the summer, would anyone want him back?
