He really did. It was wonderful, powerhouse stuff. He took the game away from Liverpool.

But...

I'm one of Sissoko's biggest defenders on this site. Genuinely like the guy for how he's gone about it. However, you can never really shake the feeling that he's a symptom of our problem - that's he's a great squad player but as a first teamer it means we can't really compete with the best.

Pogba doesn't have the work ethic or "heart" that Sissoko does but he has goals and assists. And that's what Sissoko desperately needs if he - and we - are going to take the next step.

I was so gutted he couldn't take that chance. Not just because of the result but what it would have meant for him as a player. But his limitations - however well he's done to work within them - just let him and us down. And it's cruel because he's been so good this season. Genuinely a very very good player and someone to be proud of that he plays in lilywhite.

I disagree here, as I feel he's more of a Herrera than a Pogba. I'd like sissoko to grab 2-3 goals a season, but he's the player who will do the dirty work for a Pogba to shine. He's also extremely useful at beating the press and transitioning from defense to attack.

Sissoko isn't the problem. Our lack of investment into an attacking box to box midfielder is.

I agree. But you'll find that United fans think Herrera is not quite good enough either.

I'm being incredily harsh here - especially as the romanitc in me loves the "story" of Sissoko - especially days like today where he took the game by the scruff of the neck and said "I'm going to fucking change this narrative".

If only he'd scored  I'd even take the own goal as an equaliser just to have him - and us - have that moment.

Sissoko clean through on goal . Deja vue Zokora clean through v Chelsea in League Cup Final. Both times you wanted anyone else to be in that position rather than them. At least Zokora’s miss had a happy ending.

So many people are overlooking his performance. He was fucking class.

Tank of a midfield player. His touch and game have come on bounds.

He has been brilliant and i was someone who couldnt stop criticising him - he was awful before this season... he helps with transitions which we lost with Dembele being sold

If Dembele had been on the pitch for the last 20 minutes we wouldn’t have lost to Wolves, Southampton, Burnley or today. Dembele brought that calm assurance to our midfield when we needed to shut down matches. Sissoko unfortunately doesn’t.

I guess the difference, and the thing that also 'condemns' us to be "not quite good enough", is that Pogba's a £100m player.

The reason why we dominated second was a lot to do with Sissoko. He was fucking class powering forward, the one providing most of our attacking progress.

The miss was one of the most disappointing things I've witnessed and any professional footballer should he be able to compose themselves and at least work the keeper, at the very least.

He's so thinking about finding Son he ends up panicking and blazing it over.

It's so bizarrely tragic as he was class second half but had he scored Liverpool wouldn't of recovered, certainly wouldn't of won the game.

Yeah had a good game again. Just needs to calm it in front of goal. Kane should coach him for a few weeks.

Sissoko played well today, especially with the useless Eriksen and Dele alongside him.
One of the few players to hold their head up high.
If only he had of finished that chance he really would have been the hero?

There have been loads of below par players this season. Dier, Alli, Eriksen, Trippier

Sissoko isn’t one of them.
It's because his par was very low to being with. Even an average performance from a PL midfielder would be Sissoko at his peak.

Honestly not sure what some people have been watching this season. Sissoko was fantastic today in the second half - AGAIN. To say he's been average in most games is nonsense. His work to get us into the positions for those counter attacks today was so impressive, and I lost count of the number of times he either beat his man or found the right pass in midfield. People are way too focused on his not aesthetically pleasing gait on the ball, but genuinely most times he receives the ball he makes the right decisions at the moment, and his awareness of what's happening around him is genuinely impressive too. Knows when he has the time to turn and run.

There is no way he is at fault for today, played an amazing game again and did the running for 2 midfielders. You miss chances all the time we missed 3 very good chances before he missed his. For me, he has already wrapped up player of the season award for us.

Jeez the bloke is being hard on himself.

I though he had a quiet first half but he was a hero in the second. Put in a shift and a half. He was carrying Eriksen and Dele. Dele is still playing within himself and doesn't look like he is over the hammy. Eriksen was well just the usual big game Eriksen.

Moussa is not the player to score in those situations. Unfortunate he was there and a little more composure could have done the job, but you cant fault the work rate and commitment. Makes me feel better for Wednesday with him in the team.

He's our best midfielder at the moment. I can excuse a miss, though he definitely should work on that aspect of his game.

Exactly - his effort and desire got him the opportunity in the first place.

He is not on the pitch to score goals.

100% needs to work on his finishing and final pass possibly setting himself a target on at least 5 goals a season. Even a shot on target across goal gives Son a chance at a tap in.
