Happy with 5 Spurs lads in the team. Was hoping to see some new faces like Wan-Bissaka, Ward-Prowse, Coady and Madison. Gareth went of course with the safe and obvious choices in Dier, Hendo and fucking Delph. Geeeeez

Social media is pretty pissed off that Wan-Bissaka didn't get in over Trippier but tbh Squad Harmony seems at an all time high atm within the england squad and you don't get that by chopping and changing so aggressively, we've already included Rice this time round.

Also judging by the 30 fullbacks we've brought this time round we are going to be going for 3-5-2 and Wan Bissaka is still a very defensive fullback so not sure he'd necessarily suit the back 3 just yet. Hoping Trent and Chillwell get the opportunity to play wing backs.

I also think there's a case to be made for keeping players in the U21s until they're too old. Give them the experience of being a leading member of the team and playing tournament football. Make exceptions in cases where a young player is so good they're clearly first eleven material for England (Dele), but in general don't promote them too early.

To be honest Winks and Kane are the main ones that need to be rested.

Aside from Kane, none of our players will play 90 mins in both games. Will be good for Alli Dier and Trippier (confidence/sharpness /injury) to get minutes and winks needed a rest.

Ideally Kane not taken at all and Rose but good to have the others get some minutes and would rather them picked than not

Dier had one game since December and already in the squad. He and Kane should’ve been rested imo.

Great. So our players who are only just back from injury, get to risk their fitness playing shit games for a shit team in a shit competition.

International football needs to be put out of its misery.

Except most of the players who are selected grew up dreaming of playing for their country and winning something with their nation. And most of the games are extremely well supported within their country. TV figures are huge. People literally travel half way around the world to watch games.....

Can someone please explain to me what we as a club get out of international football? Other than tired and injured players that is. Maybe it's me but even during the world cup I struggle to give a shit. I just don't get how a Spurs fan can support any other team.

Dier you could probably make an argument for him not being there. Kanes the captain, one of the best players in the world, and he's back to full fitness. It would be madness for Southgate not too pick him.

I support all the Spurs players on international duty.

Spurs do get a benefit - as the more players who are internationals, the more widely supported the club becomes - which leads to more revenue directly, and indirectly via more TV matches.

I understand the concern about burning the players out - and I think that the international teams should be limited to 4 call-ups per player per year. But, I also understand the pressure those coaches are under to deliver results - and that means picking your best players every single time.

Harry Kane's value probably went up by £50m during the world cup. Tripper's price probably doubled. We get to see our players test themselves against the best players in the world, they get to experience match day situations they wouldn't get with us which makes them better players, they learn new skills during international training, etc.

The world cup last year ended up with our captain lifting the trophy. He would have been on the front page of newspapers and magazines all across the world, which helps to raise our profile. We also finished with Harry Kane as top scorer. Again it raises our profile which makes us more attractive to sponsors which hopefully means that we get much more money when the naming rights deal is agreed.

I love international football as it's the only time you can support a team with your friends who follow Liverpool, Arsenal, Norwich, Etc.

Southgate goes on about players being burnt out but then selects players just back from injury. They don't really care.

I'm not sure that's true, especially of Southgate who has tried to rest players in the past and who has been the most accommodating England manger for years. He usually calls players up but will often only play them in one out of two games. And Dier missed the last couple of games with tonsillitis so it's just match fitness that's an issue with him now.

Might be good for his fitness levels when otherwise we have several weeks off but also a good time with England could improve the mood and form of our players with a number of them needing game time to get back to full fitness/sharpness. Meanwhile does Eriksen have games with Denmark? if so that might get him motivated afresh for all the massive games we have ahead of us

Even if Kane wasn't captain, he is someone who wants to play every game possible, especially for his country. He takes an immense amount of pride from it. If it was his choice, he'd go every single time.

I actually dislike other top sides having players pull out. Says to me those players care more about their club than their country. After the World Cup and Nations League we've just had and going to have in the summer, I'm surprised. Thought this was the highest point in years for our national team.

Always seems cynical that a lot of clubs seem to pull their players who then miraculously are okay for their next match.

And we being honest (too much so for me at times) just hand over all of ours regardless of whether puts us in disadvantage to our league rivals.

I hope England do thorough medical checks of their own before allowing these players to withdraw...

Some of these other clubs *cough mainly Chelsea with their millions of wasted youngsters* could do with getting a few more English players in their team and pick up some of the slack too.
