I thought about reading it, then looked at some of the author's other articles and found that the wording and strange usage of case in his article titles made me want to find him and savagely beat him rather than actually read any of his work.

GOTTA agree i think since the draw dortmund have been over hyped as typical by the british media, i've watched dortmund a lot this season and yes they are top but they are top of a poor german league with bayern not really showing much early on allowing dortmund to get an advantage, for some reason this spurs win is being hailed as an amazing result and totally unexpcted where as personally from the time the draw was made i had spurs down as massive favourites to win and go through, I dont rate either of the teams spurs or dortmund though

I hope Bayern hammer them

Ever since we drew BVB all I have heard is how we're already out and they'll absolutely batter us - there's some desperate back-tracking going on across Liverpool, Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea right now.........and I'm finding it hilarious!

I watched the game against Dortmund. And I'm definitely no troll I must add.
The way I saw the game pan out was Dortmund trying to control the game but whether due to their absentees or not I felt they looked pretty ordinary and other than a few isolated sorties from the young wingers were toothless in attack and coughed up possession far too easily for a supposedly top class side. They actually reminded me of us in that recent game against West Ham when we - and Bobby especially - were very sloppy in possession at times and allowed West Ham to take easy advantage of that.
Spurs, too, looked nothing special to me. Especially first half. Very good defensively with that central three backed up superbly by Vertognen but other than a few isolated moments little sign of the really enterprising collective team play which they seemed to be playing a year or so ago. It seemed to me their game plan and what they relied upon almost exclusively was to capitalise upon Dortmund surrendering possession. In the end, it certainly worked brilliantly for them on the night [two, nay, three absolutely brilliant crosses into the box each superbly converted] so I guess it's difficult in the context of overall efficiency/effectiveness to justify being so meh about their performance.
And yet I was pretty underwhelmed by what I saw from Spurs. They look like a team that has found a reliable route to winning games in that they seem pretty solid at the back and seem to be able to grab vital goals but appear to have lost that sparkle in their overall play which, forinstance, was so evident in many of the games I watched them last season.

Just looking at one game is one of the points I am saying about how modern supporters view football and progress these days. They have no given right to be where they are given their history yet they have demonstrated a sustained level of progression over years now.

9/10 games you play in a Champions League knockout round are not easy. Dortmund had the players to hurt them on the break, but in the second half they got absolutely overran.

To have not signed a single player in the summer and be looking at a season where they will go deep in the CL (quarter final is great for them given previous history) and to be 5 points off the top in February and yet to play both teams above them, is impressive.

Yeah. The bastards.

I think that first Liverpool supporter ^ almost got it right, apart from the fact that we actually played a great second half, reminiscent of the football we were playing over the last couple of years.

The last few games without Kane and Dele, we’ve been pretty solid but pretty ordinary. In all honesty, even a little boring at times. The passing between defenders have been going on for minutes at a time sometimes. Then after about 25 passes between the back 4 or 5, Toby will Dawson it up to either Son or Lucas/Llorente etc and more often than not, we’d lose possession, win it back and start all over again. I have no problem with other fans not being overly impressed with our latest performances and in some ways that works in our favour because we’ll continue to remain underdogs.

The flip side of that is that our effort, work rate and ability to grind something out is second to none in this league. Winning ugly is absolutely fine when 2 of your 3 best playmakers are injured. But that second half was the real deal, we controlled it beautifully against a really good side. Everything we did was faster and more clinical. If the first half was underwhelming from us, the second half was exhilarating. Maybe we’re finally getting into our stride without Kane and Dele, though here’s hoping Kane is back for Burnley.

I was actually only having a bit of a joke.

I actually did read the article and quite enjoyed it, especially the quoted line about Lamela.

But I agree with @rez9000 "The Spurs" isn't cringeworthy or anything, or even wrong because as it's been pointed out it's used in songs, it just hits a discordant note when used in the wrong context, ie. not in those songs.

Like all I do prefer to see some of the excellent free flowing football we are capable of. Though I also want to see us being able to understand a ‘moment’ and play the appropriate football within this context. Perhaps this is what we are seeing. Last season at Wembley against Dortmund we were ahead at half time purely down to last ditch defending and two great finishes at the near post from Son and Harry. Dortmund had been the better side and could have been a couple of goals up. This time we were more careful treating them with respect but also taking the fire out of their play. As a tactic it looked smart and being seated by our goal line it was only that save before half time by Lloris that caused me concerns. The first half gave us the platform to play as we did in the second half.

However I would honestly prefer us to come out hit and get two or three goals up then play counter attack but we seem either incapable of doing so or else it’s a plan

I mean, fuck me, if I haven’t waited 2/3rds of my life for a spurs team that’s able to do that. It’s literally what anyone would want their team to be isn’t it? They’d never lose!

Worth remembering that these worst case scenarios some of us are considering are all the Arsenal and Chelsea fans have got to hope for, isn't that nice.
