I have never seen or heard so many fans from loads of different teams stick up for high profile players like Dele and Barkley. I would say 90% are condemning the dick who took the video.

Dare I say it, that fans are finally reconnecting with England players after the World Cup and Nations league group win?

Fans would have joined in with the lambasting a couple of years back

Daily Mail didn’t join in defending them I noticed.

Maybe it’s a coincidence that the Mail went in negatively and they just happen to be young, rich and mixed race?

Dele plays at AM. He has done his entire time with us. I believe he’d be very good in a three man CM but that’s besides the point. He is one of 6 AMs for 3, sometimes two positions. The other five are Eriksen, Son, Lamela, Lucas and Sissoko. Dele can play down the middle or from the left. Eriksen can play left right or centre. Lamela can play from the right or through the middle. Son and Lucas can both play either wing. Sissoko can only real play on the right, or if central it’s CM not AM.

That is massive amounts of depth. Almost all of it is very high quality. Eriksen and Son were both fantastic last season, Lamela has always been useful and this season he’s been one of our best player, Lucas is one of our best players too this season and even Sissoko is proving useful.

We should have bought in the summer and your are right, we needed cover, but not for Dele, his alternatives are amongst our very best players, amongst the league’s best players in some cases, so to say his injury leaves us with shit alternatives is insanity.

CM is another matter. Dembele, Winks, Wanyama, Dier, sometimes Sissoko. Three have had significant injury issues, one is very limited and one is only really useful defensively. Dembele and Wanyama out for two younger, fitter, more dynamic options was necessary, but without shifting two highly paid established players it just screwed up our plans.

I agree with your assessment of our priorities but if you acknowledge that Sissoko now plays deeper and the five remaining options also cover Kane when he's injured/rested, and we play twice a week, one injury and the cover looks much thinner.

Obviously the mids is where money needs to be spent in the summer. No excuses.

That’s the DM though and I couldn’t give two fucks about them.

Fans voices seem to be changing and it’s a good thing

Some dickhead on Twitter said:
Why do these arrogant overpaid under talented footballers get away with behaviours that nobody else would?

As someone who's just done 5 years inside, I fully agree with this. They told me breakfast was included, god damnit.

Hopefully he’s free of those injuries that were bothering him. He’s probably been our best player this season when playing. I’m struggling to think of anyone better.

Toby's been fantastic all season. Most consistent performer this year for me.

Really? I think Toby has been very hit and miss this season, he's losing an unusually large amount of headers (he has won 41% of his headers compared to winning 50%, 50% and 62% in his first three seasons) and has been caught out of position more often then normal. He has been okay, but right now I'd rather start with Verts + Sanchez at the back.

Its hard because of the injuries but our best player this season so far probably has been Dele. Started the season in great form, but injuries have got in his way. Lamela and Jan could also make claims to have been the best. In any case, this season Dele's got his swag back.

Sissoko's been getting a lot of well-earned love for his recent run of play, but a shout out to my main man Dele is in order. As much as it was Sissoko's driving run that created the goal, it was Dele's composure, creativity, and class to find the space, receive Sissoko's pass at pace, spin, find Eriksen, and put the ball in the exact spot that Eriksen could slam the ball home in stride but out of reach of two Inter defenders and the keeper, all in a nanosecond.

Dele's great awareness of his teammates is something I point out to my kids. He actually looks up, which is why he spots Eriksen (and Son for his amazing run against Chelsea). Most other players would have gone for glory or panicked with a wild shot getting the ball in the box with 10 minutes to go in a must-win CL match.

In conclusion, Dele is very good, and we should not take him for granted. Locking him down with the long contract was as valuable as any signing could be, as it is one less superlative talent we would have to find in the market should he have left in the next few years.

Could do with working on his shooting. Considering the number of goals he’s scored amazing how few have been outside box. Definitely a string he could add to his bow. You’d think being so close with Harry he’d have helped him out a bit.

Vastly more mature these days.
Winds people up with composure
not because he's lost his temper.
Much more deliberate on the ball
and his awareness and movement
are top class.

Not necessarily our best player
that is Eriksen for me
but my favourite.

What's the title of this fine piece of poetry? "An ode to Dele" seems fitting.

Would need to start
Oh (majestic) Dele Alli
and be addressed to him.
Usually they rhyme
but irregular forms exist

I find the recent upsurge
in interest in poetry
very gratifying.
Your old English teachers
would be amazed

@wishkah Posted this in the England Thread back in October. The bit that stood out to me.

"And often Dele drops into u21 training (no media) as it allows him to practice being a captain, and controlling games"

Crazy to think that at 22 years of age he's already developing so many parts of his game. Also, little know fact about Dele, he's one of the fittest players in the team. I remember a update on the OS during Dele's first pre-season with us and Dier noted that Dele was giving Nabil ( who was also known to be fit) a run for his money.

"Dele Alli and Nabil Bentaleb have been really impressive in the endurance running. Everyone knew about Nabil but Dele seems to be getting close to him so it’s been interesting! He's put up a good test!"

More of @wishkah post below.

Work hosted a charity Q&A with Gareth Southgate, Aidy Boothroyd and Gareth Thomas last night. The Q&A was good but having a beer and a chat with Aidy was the best bit. Funny chap.
Equally - we had John Terry roaming the floors collecting cash for leukaemia. best part was where (quite a snr) trader tapped his card on the reader and said, "this won't give you my home address will it? I know what you're like with wives" classic.

Some of the highlights from the panel.
  • Had to un-do a lot of previous work to get the England camp feeling a place of pride and relaxation. Said the fun had been sucked out of it slightly and there is a lot of work to change that.
  • U21 camp is now a direct replica of the 1st team. The continuity, expectations, and 'feel' are what gives you a winning group not just good technical players.
  • 'threw' the group game against Belguim. They picked the best 11 for the knock out game and gave those players a full prep session + tactics. The group game was a reserve game for them. Felt validated because the KO game went to ET. Said during the game he usually would have brought Kane on but was happy letting the result happen.
  • Didn't have enough time to prep pre WC. All prep focused on set plays (inc pens) and perfecting the system. Therefore he knows a tactical change would have helped during the Croatia game but knew the players couldn't enact it. Also under pressure players revert to what's been schooled into them and he felt for 20mins they lost faith and that caused the loss.
  • Happy with the young team. they learnt from the Euros (failure) that the team had half the amount of minutes than most of the others. When you've had the minutes your 'default' mode is locked in and you do the basics well, or without thought. Hence minutes count. players need minutes to be in the squad, it's simply a scientific fact now.
  • Said the mental side is now huge, and smart players are what counts. Said the team will keep growing as they play more cup finals, more CL games etc which is why it's hard to pick lower-league players. He referenced how Modric v England recognised how England were set-up and adjusted his position to stifle Henderson (make him only pass sideways). Said those players are what wins you games, and those with the experience and calmness under pressure to do it.
  • Selection for England includes looking at the profile. Many of the kids had difficult backgrounds so they help with that, being a role model, and nobody is allowed to deface the badge. It's a self governing model which.....
  • ....Kane, Henderson and Dier are huge enforcers of. Said that Kane trains in a superhuman way and basically has the drive to be better than any player in any position. Therefore nobody is 'allowed' to have an ego as Kane could pretty much learn to do their job. Said that mentality is what wins you tournaments. LOVES that the spurs boys turn up and, regardless of who they are, they have the mentality to win and be professional role models. Speaks to Poch a lot.

  • Spoke to Aidy a lot about Winks. Says he is a "once in a generation player" in how he plays and things. Issue is he needs mins, needs to experience pressure, and needs to grab games. Basically a massively under appreciated player who now needs to win his spot. Seen it before with a lot of players who don't grasp the talent they have
  • Loves KWP - thinks he could easily be the next England RB. Again it's up to him. Although Trent A-A apparently is a beast and a new favourite.
  • Said the kids need mins - all of them. And often ALi drops into u21 training (no media) as it allows him to practice being a captain, and controlling games.

Will update post lunch.

His role in the goal on Wednesday night was great. Lots of players would have tried to work a shot for themselves in that position but he saw the bigger picture and laid it off to Eriksen.

Had Kane revived the ball there he would have tried to turn his man and shoot. It might still have worked out in a goal but Dele’s pass to Eriksen made it an easier route to scoring.

Incredible stats, and he’s becoming more influential across the pitch. So glad he signed that contract extension
