Sissoko is a fucking embarrassment. How are you gonna be outmuscled by a player half your bodyweight ffs

The main difference between Barca and us (and 99% of other teams) is the crisp accuracy of passes and the understanding of movement off the ball, we don't do either of these things very well, we're too slow and predictably methodical.
Spot on.

Can't help but think if we were subbing on Grealish instead of Sissoko and Martial instead of Llorente we'd have sneaked something there.

When there’s less than 2 minutes gone in a massive Champions league game v Barcelona?...

It's just really gut wrenching to have to admit that we are going backwards. The players know it, Poch knows it, we know it.

We just accept that Barca are going to roll us over and that we are happy enough just to give them a game. Fine, so we weren't embarrassed. Call that some sort of moral victory if you want.

But I was there tonight and I was there last year when we destroyed Madrid. And we are not the same team. You can point to Eriksen and Dele being missing, but even they have shown a big dip in form this season - and besides, I reckon we will be permanently missing at least one of them next season.

Truth is, Levy and Poch messed up big time. Good clubs plan for the future and are prepared for the unexpected. On the other hand, our success is completely dependent on our key players avoiding injuries and experiencing no drop off in form and performance. Even then, it's only good enough to finish 3rd.

But maybe our slide backwards is perfectly acceptable to some on this forum.

Zoom out a bit, see how far we have come. "Only good enough to finish third", well I'd say finishing third is pretty amazing after the shit I've seen in 25 years of supporting spurs.

That's the real problem I've got with the great improvement we've seen under Poch. People just expect more and more, new fans come in that never knew us as a mid table team and all of sudden people whine on a night that we hosted Barcelona in the biggest club competition in the world. It's actually pretty depressing thinking about it!

Aside from two catastrophic mistakes from Lloris we were beaten by a far superior team, simple as. The gulf in class is so obvious and we will never compete with these teams unless the bigger picture changes at the club. That’ll never change so therefore champions league adventures are always going to be just that - adventures.

They controlled the game but we played really well for the last 20 of the 90 and were undone at full steam by Hugo’s decision to play sideways and Trippier’s decision to not lump it upfield.

That’s a positive. We need to channel this second half performance and transfer it into something we might be able to win, namely the cups.

That said with City, Liverpool and Chelsea looking so much stronger than us if we can get back to last season’s form we can still go for top 4. But we need to perform better than we have so far this season because the last two wins are only papering over some significant cracks.

Poch messed up again tonight but with a limited choice of players - but the players showed they have desire against a far superior team and that was great to see. They want to win stuff, but he needs to be better to allow them to do that.

It’s really starting to feel like we’ve come as far as we can go in this era. Something needs to change before we lose our best players, at which point it’s game over.

The manager? Maybe.

The chairman? More likely.

Whi would do better then dtxspur??? Aurier was injured and more of a liability defensively and kwp is inexperienced and not ready for a match like tonight
I think KWP is at least worth a shot to see if he is ready for this. Trippier proves to be a complete defensive liability time and time again.

First half wasn’t great. Second half was a lot better. I know it’s if buts and maybe’s but if we had 3 or 4 of our injured players playing tonight think we would have pushed Barca very close to winning the game. They Are a great team but aren’t as great as they were 4/5 seasons ago deffiently beatable.

On the actual performance that was Lloris worst game in a spurs shirt make me wonder if he was ready to come back from injury in such a big game. Tripper had a very poor game & I didn’t think Sanchez was that good either.

The positives Winks getting better as the game went on. Kane slowly starting to look like his old self and Lamela love the guy! He has been brilliant this season so far.

The ref was a joke! Completely star struck by the Barca players names

Absolutely this.

I actually had a tear in my eye tonight. This is the one game I have always dreamed of and was gutted my current situation didn’t allow me to get there.

If only Harry was here to let some of these “fans” know they never had it so good... we haven’t.

We were totally outclassed tonight, by Lionel Messi. Not Mark Noble. We’ve come a long way, enjoy it

How did Poch mess up? From what I've read, Messi put on a masterclass. We didn't have our best players out there, which didn't help. The lack of trust between defence and goalkeeper is another issue. The problem for Poch is he has had to nurse players into fitness and protect shattered minds. I suspect that Sissoko and Llorente were sent on to protect other players.
I think we have to have perspective as fans. Our team fought back well, which is important. We gifted two goals to them, too.

Should we have had a penalty?

Me, too. I'd have loved to have seen Messi.

It is the general theme but if we had our first team we would have beaten them, we may not have prevented them scoring but we would have certainly scored more than a couple it may have been 5-4 or something ridiculous.

I am proud but at the same time its just what ifs
