Poch always rotates and i like having an impact sub from the bench. We have really lacked someone who can change the game coming on. I wouldn’t mind if Lamela can be our “Super Sub”.

He will get his starts and just have to take the chance when he gets them. Maybe start him for a couple of games. Poch gave him a chance to start against Inter and he was really poor. Poch yelled at him a lot, probably why he didn’t start against Brighton.

Lamela needs to win the position when he starts, otherwise Poch will just keep him as a super sub. Not much else to say.

No matter how bad you think Lamela played against Inter, Son and Eriksen were objectively worse. That didn't stop Pochetino from choosing both of them over Lamela last night though, how do you explain that?

He reminds of Firminho a bit... Hard working, guile and can finish.

I'd love to see him given a run of games and if Eriksen doesn't up his game a bit id have him in the ten position and give Eriksen a little kick up the arse.

People seem to forget that he started in the 1st eleven most of the times in the "Leicester" season where we, in my opinion, were at our best. The season where he pressed the crap out of Man City (4-1), the battle of Chelsea, the game against Arsenal where we were winning 2-1, he got subbed and our game immediately changed as the pressing stopped and drew 2-2 by a late Arsenal goal.

It is also no coincident that when he went on sick leave because of his hips, people were questioning that our games then were starting too slow, without the usual urgency obviously not realising that Lamela was the catalyst. So yes, I believe he is ready to reclaim his berth in the starting 11 as he definitely on current form is playing better than some who currently hold a place.

I disagree. He gave the ball away most of all the players against Inter, worst pass completion, barely 60% and most ball losses/loss of possession. Got in the game in the second half with the rest of the team, but missed his chances to score. Poch was really unhappy with him on the sidelines in the first half. The commentators mentioned it and it’s probably why Poch didn’t start with Lamela aginst Brighton.

Lamela will no doubt get his chance to start, but he has to be better in the first half to secure a starting spot. Otherwise Poch will just use him as a sub.
Sorry but we were a constant attacking threat until the lamela/
winks substitution

For the Arsenal game, I was at the match. He was already on a yellow and would probably have had a second if he wasn’t subbed. Although I would have liked him to have stayed on but I think it was a correct decision .

I'd like to see us play him in a front three of: Moura, Son and Lamela. In such cases as we want to give Harry a rest. I can see us mimicking Liverpool's 433 with that setup.

Son - Mane
Lamela - Firmino
Moura - Salah

Sadly, I'm not sure Poch would be open to this formation - and I think it probably has to do with not having the right personnel in midfield to make it effective. Wanyama and Dier are too cumbersome. Eriksen doesn't take defensive responsibilities seriously when he plays midfield. Dele can be hit-and-miss. Winks is rusty. And Dembele is also not built for the speed required to play this formation effectively.

That all said... yes, I think Lamela deserves some time out there. If we are going back to a 4231, then maybe we revert to the 3 AMs we were playing two/three years ago: Dele Eriksen Lamela.

We need to consider his injury record, and phase him into 90 mins over this next few weeks. He has the ability to win matches for us, but only if he available to play. So keeping him injury free is paramount.

Starting and taking him off, or bringing him on as a sub. I prefer the latter.

Nine times out of ten he got a yellow card but was clever enough not to get a second! So I still believed he should have stayed on. The thing about that match had we collected the 3 points we would have gone top of the league for the first time for a very long time, who knows what would have happened then!! Still pissed of with Poch about that sub!!
