Man the statement was so well articulated and I'm against any booing or what protesting at the stadium or what not but fuck me, what can the supporters do in regards to this:

Earlier this year, the Club objected to THST’s criticism of steep ticket price rises. It told us we could not expect players to be signed or wages to be competitive while we opposed those ticket price rises. Fans have paid the prices asked. And yet no signings have been made.

They said they had to based on those factors and didn't follow through, shambles.

Doesn’t sound good if things are so tense with Levy and Poch that they’ve been not talking to each other. What a complete shambles.

The club has some serious damage control to do over the next few days.

Kovacic I don't think we'd have got, I think he was thrown in as a sweetener for Courtois and Lobotka I'm with you onnas I really like him but his release fee would have been our record spent. It's a lot tougher tying to secure genuine class and it wouldn't surprise me if we were in for Lobotka as an alternative but having him as the player that cost more than any player in Tottenhams history when apparently Southampton had been bidding for him raises question marks about if he is up to the task. It's a disappointing window but for where we are now I'd much rather try for the heavyweight than bloat out our already busting at the seems nonHG quotas. A big shame we couldn't pull something out the hat but all isn't lost, the squads still together and the money (cough cough) is supposedly still there
Players generally cost more with each successive window. Players were available in CM, and we should have pulled out all the stops to get them for our coach.

Maybe Poch is happy maybe not but I am sure he could have been made happier with the right signings.
I look at us and I look at Manchester United and neither got what they wanted and yet had they worked together they both could have got what they wanted, we wanted Martial and they wanted Alderwiereld and I don't think that the fault was at our end on that one.
As we've been told, it was a hard window to do the business and what made it harder for us was that we clearly wanted certain players but were not prepared to snap up others if we didn't get them and that is probably why we are hearing that Pochottino isn't punching the walls, if he said don't foist players I don't want on me he knows he restricts the wriggle room and there may be consequences to that, I am also convinced that it must not happen again.
As for other teams, City, like us didn't need wholesale signings but didn't get at least one they wanted, United enough said, Chelsea one in to please their manager one on loan and a world record for an worse keeper, Liverpool one possible blinding signing and three alrights which might be good business but an expensive mistake if not, Arsenal and West Ham were free to make wholesale changes because they started from such a low base so I'd say the "hard window" idea makes sense.
All in all I'm disappointed as I honestly thought we'd make some sort of a statement ready for the new statdium but I'm not slitting my wrists any time soon.

Levy and to some extent Woodward have made a stand against vastly inflated fees for ordinary players or players not yet playing to potential. Noble but pissing in the wind when Chelsea pay £70m for a £15m keeper and little clubs go on vast spending sprees in their desperation. The market is ridiculous but it’s the market we have to shop in.

I can see Poch being one of the great coaches in footballing history. I'd like his legacy to be with us, and not with another team just because we helped him move on!

He'll end up another on the list of great players that moved on and won everything somewhere else, Sheringham, Carrick, bale, modric and he who's name must not be uttered.. The difference here is that I feel with the right backing he was willing to stay here and make the club great again.

A quick question to @Rob

Does the club ever try to threaten you when ITK comes out that riles up the fanbase, and paints them in a bad light? If they are trying to gag Tim sodding Sherwood, then surely you must get a bit of this too?

Just interested to know more about the dark arts.

Anyway, absolutely fair play to Val for sharing. That truly is worrying for Poch and his future with us.

Tottenham's net spend since May 2014 is £29m. I think we have the sufficient funds to buy at least one of Pochs targets.

Will be fascinating to see how the rest of the transfer window pans out for Europe now - reckon a few teams are going to go on a mad with signings knowing there is no competition from English clubs anymore...

Also hope we don't have to deal with Madrid coming in for Eriksen, because I've got a feeling that's going to happen if Modric leaves...

If we get a big bid for Toby, reckon he'll go - anything over £40m and we'll bite. Same with Dembele...and we still need to shift players like Jansen who Poch publicly stated is available for transfer.

I still expect Edwards to leave, even though Poch is going to 'trust the youth' - his time here is done, the boat has sailed for him.

Levy really needs to come out to make a statement explaining what happened. Maybe he will wait until the international window closes, so he can explain some sold players as well.

No need. I think we all know what happened.

Any discussion of the transfer market has to begin with the radical shift in the way football clubs now generate income. The simple fact of the matter is that an overwhelmingly majority of money teams in the Premier League now make comes from television and commercial sponsorships. The days of bullying smaller clubs at the deadline for their best players at cut-rate prices has essentially been finished since the mega-television deal of 2016 kicked in. We've seen that first hand with failures to not only sign Grealish, but also in our past efforts to sign Ross Barkley, Saido Berahino, and Wilfried Zaha. In fact, it's arguably more advantageous now to go in early in the window and sign players before others have the chance to completely inflate the market by spending enormous sums.

At the end of the day, it's pretty simple for me. The club have earned nearly 300 million pounds over the last two seasons from the EPL television deal. Between 2016 to 2022, the club will likely earn, in aggregate, somewhere in the neighborhood of 800-900 million pounds from Premier League television rights payments. Just as a comparison, in the 2005-2006 season, Arsenal earned 29 million pounds from the EPL television deal before their move to the Emirates. So, despite the explosion of revenue that may see the club earn over 400 million pounds this season, neither the club's wage bill (which will likely be under 40% wage-to-turnover this season) nor transfer spending has remotely kept up with revenue generated. So, that begs the question of whether ENIC is essentially using the extra television income to help pay for the stadium. Not surprisingly, this has never been acknowledged by the club, nor has the THST ever asked Levy point blank where the increased television revenue is going (it hasn't gone on wages as of yet according to our 2016-2017 financial statement, as our wage bill has only climbed roughly 37 million pounds from 2010 to 2016, while our revenue has increased closer to 140 million pounds in that same time period). If they are largely using the increased income from television rights deals to pay for the stadium, the fans of the club deserve to know that. Supporters also deserve to know when this period of relative austerity will be lifted. Will we still be forced to sell to buy even after the club is carrying zero debt? That might have seemed like a ridiculous question, but we are coming off a transfer window where we became the only EPL club since 2003 not to sign a single player.

One other thing I'll posit is that it seems a possibility that Levy and his executive team may have become a bit complacent. Pochettino has done terrific work leading us to three straight CL qualifications, the club is earning enormous sums of money, the value of the club has skyrocketed, and the manager has missed out on countless targets in the past without kicking up a fuss. Given all that, it wouldn't be terribly surprising if Levy wasn't feeling the heat to push the boat out in a major way. What is also clear is that the club likely also weren't prepared for the type of media and fan backlash we've seen the last 24 hours. It's a storm that will either pass quickly with the team performing well or build over the season with poor performances. My guess is it will pass quickly given a strong start with wins against Newcastle and Fulham.

As an addendum to the above, I very much take issue with some arguments I've seen stating that signing players who could have improved our squad was next to impossible in this market. Jean-Michel Seri was heavily scouted by Barcelona 12 months ago to be Andres Iniesta's replacement. He played in a Nice team that played fast transition, attacking football. He went to Fulham for 25 million pounds. Felipe Anderson was heavily linked with Manchester United a year ago, but an injury kept him out a big chunk of last season, so his stock went down a bit. Both of these players would've fit perfectly into our squad and would have addressed our need for depth in the central midfield and as cover for Eriksen.

Great post. It is laughable when you hear people say there were no players available that could have improved the team. More like there were no opportunistic deals out there for players that could improve us.

Didn't one of the ITK's refer to Sherwood as being a mouthpiece for the club to spin positivity?

Now you have nailed it, the key word opportunistic deals to improve our squad. And there was none available for us.

I was levyed(excuse the pun) we didn't sign any players. And rightly so vented my anger.

Having had a day of taking my chill pills, you realise that majority of the signings other teams made was to improve their first team and to be fair for spurs to improve the first team, we will be playing min of £60m. i.e Zaha comes to mind; will Zaha be a guaranteed starter, then will we pay that sort of money for someone not a guaranteed starter bearing in mind we need to be prudent with our spending as we have invested heavily in building a new stadium.

Ok Jack Grealish, is he 35m better off than a youth player, or are we better off giving youth a chance than playing 35m for a squad player. We believe he was worth a certain amount and villa believed otherwise so we move on.

I know football have moved on however we still have the stadium finance to consider and as a result we will have to trade carefully.

Lastly, I believe Poch and levy are signing from the same page and for that alone I am happy.

Loved that statement but to be fair you can argue this part happened. If we start seeing the other 5-6 come through as expected then our wage bill will be much closer to Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea. Our top earners are pretty much on the same.

Whilst that is not as exciting it's a big thing for the club, and should cement our place at the 'big 6' table going forward. Initially we seemed like a bit of a squatter at the top table but with this and the new stadium we should be here to stay.

I know we all joked about holding on to announcements but I'd bloody love it if they did a couple today. Eriksen especially.

I'm not going to lie, I am concerned those contracts havent been announced yet (Dele and Eriksen) and will feel significantly better when I see the poch arm.

I thought the THST statement pretty much nailed what most sensible people are feeling and was well reasoned. I really hope the club at least offers and explanation. I think transparency goes a long way.

Poch mentioned in his end of season conference about this, being clear with the fans where we stand, what our ambitions are and how we are going to go about it - with the need to set realistic expectations in the fan base due to our limitations but sadly Poch or Levy have not done that. I hope they can both rectify that.

I think Poch knew where we stood in regard to transfers when he signed his new contract - i think we wanted to generate funds through the sales of Toby/rose/Dembele but they never materialised. I can't see those players going now that we can't sign anyone.
