Looking back at our previous record in case my suspicions were unfounded. But I genuinely don't think we benefit much from signing squad players. Look at what we've managed the last three years - signings who weren't for the first XI or youth (<21):

Lucas
Aurier
Llorente
Gazzaniga
Sissoko
Jansenn
Wanyama
N'Koudou
Lopez
Son
N'Jie
Wimmer
Trippier

Son was an obvious success, Trippier too. Wanyama has severe fitness issues we may or may not have known about, and the jury is still out on Lucas. But the other nine? Varying between poor and atrotious. When we brought the likes of Mason and Bentaleb into the team from the academy, they certainly didn't do any worse than that lot - I'd argue they did better. Whereas now we're stuck with expensive players we don't want and nobody else wants either.

And then I look at a Grealish or a Gomes. They're alright, sure. Are they better than Onomah would be if he'd had a triple-figure number of first team appearances? I doubt it. If we're going to refuse to pay silly bucks for them and give Skipp, Amos, Oakley-Boothe a chance instead, I frankly am all for it.

No one's defending this shit. We want someone who'll pay the money and bring in good players. This is asking a lot but maybe even before pre-season

Since we improved under Poch people's expectations of us around here and their idea of our stature in the game have gotten absolutely ridiculous. We are not a Man Utd failing to challenge, we're an Everton doing extremely well to be anywhere close.

Yes we've got a proud history - but that frankly has little influence on where we stand now.

No, it isn't Glory Glory, To Dare is To Do.

Can't believe that I'm reading that from a Spurs 'supporter'.

Maybe the history of this club and what it stands for doesn't mean anything to you. If that's the case then you are better off going to Crystal Palace instead...

What is the obsession with him by some on here  - he has literally done nothing to prove he is ready for the step up to compete in our midfield.

No other club in the top 6 would rely on their youth players for a season. Youth players are supposed to be integrated slowly into the team, supplemented by quality additions. Not every youth player will turn out like Dele, and it could be a harsh baptism of fire for them, if things don't go to plan.

They can do what they want. Why have you made this "one" player thing? It's just an arbitrary number.

Because we haven’t signed at least one player and I along with numerous other fans are fuming. This is embarrassing, I wouldn’t even want to come face to face with any of my mates now.

At least taking a punt on someone, with A chance of the player improving and proving us wrong is better than no one.

How do they expect us to want to spend money if we don’t see it being invested into the team?

Tbh Levy has played a stormer. Give it a few weeks and all focus will be on the stadium and people will have moved attention away from us not signing anyone.

This isn't a very fair argument. You've just (mostly) listed all the players who didn't make the cut for first 11 and left out the ones who did (n)

Frankly yes, it is asking a lot. To bring in players good enough for a side among the top 10 in the world right now, on our resources, is not really possible - anyone clearly good enough for such a role will be offered double the wages somewhere else.

Not when there’s still hope to be killed.
I think even the most optimistic have given up on that my friend. Its not that the glass is empty, its that its smashed on the floor and currently being trampled by a heard of elephants carrying Levy to Odbins for a celebratory bottle of plonk.

Nah. That's how we've ended up with deadwood to shift. It sounds like you just want any signing regardless of quality.

Don't fall for the propaganda. It is we won't pay.

Of course it matters. I love our history. But you aren't a very good historian if you only look at the nice bits. You cannot ignore the fact that we're operating in utterly alien conditions now to back in the Glory Glory days, the fact that for a long time we were not very good and that impacts us now, the fact that we've been close to relegation and devastation when we've ignored the facts, the fact that other clubs who have tried to force the issue have gone backwards, not forwards. It's about being realistic. The fact we won the double in 1961 is a massive point of pride for us - it makes absolutely zero difference to what we can and can't do in a transfer windows in 2018.

Correction - he doesn't want signings for the sake of signings.

He might have wanted Zaha or Martial, but it's clear that they don't want to strengthen us by selling them. Plan B is something no one has wanted based on discussion.

Who wants another Sissoko?

Why does it have to be another Sissoko if it's not Zaha or Martial? Why can't it be someone else who can actually play and costs less - maybe actually scout in countries other than England maybe?
