Hang on a sec, but to me it sounds like if all this come to pass, our squad which needs strengthening actually becomes a lot lighter in personnel?

Am I wrong in thinking from Herc’s info that we aim to get 4 in but release 6 to balance this? Doesnt this leave us a bit short, squad wise to be challenging on all fronts?
If that is the case, we will probably look at the young players like KWP, Onomah etc...to fill squad

Can’t care less about gross or net just want the players in early and we can start the season with a fully integrated squad.

I don't get this mentality.

100+ million net spend means we are adding serious quality, as player sales likely take it closer to 200m.

200m x 4 players is basically what City did last summer. 100m x 4 players is basically what we did with the Bale money. One is title challenge, the other is Europa league.

I thought we are in the Champions League for the third consecutive year.

If my memory serves me correct our ~100m gross spend in 2013 got us 6th and into the Europa the following year.

CL is all on Poch.

No matter how talented De Ligt is £70m is becoming ridiculous. I'd rather we dropped Dier back to CB and kept Wanyama if that's gonna be the price for him.

Hmm. Something has changed.

...

A 30m-50m deficit is very, very different to a 150m deficit. One is less than most lower league PL teams' net spend last summer, the other puts us in a bracket with the top 3/4.
To be fair, although De Ligt is ridiculously priced it shouldn't matter too much what we spend as long as we buy all the players who are good enough and sell those who aren't. If we've spent over £100m and can recoup that through selling players that Poch doesn't want then why wouldn't we do that? As Poch has seemingly been saying, he wants us to get all our targets beforehand anyway, so in that case it won't matter if the budget is pre or post sales.

At some points during the season some of our players, full internationals in some cases, wern't even making the 18 match day squad.

Of course it makes sense to condense the squad a touch, but improve it considerably in the areas that need strengthened.

Not bothered how the figures breakdown, providing we acquire a high quality CM, another forward and another CB if Alderweireld goes.

I dont get some...dont spend enough and thats not good enough..spend a large sum on one of the best young cbs in the world and its too much. If it comes off it will be a brilliant deal for us and poke one in the eye at the competition

Here is what I think, and it is probably going to be right, wrong or in between. I think we have 150-170M to spend on signings (or some unprecedented high figure) as soon as any dealings can be done. Then, we have players to offload. Player sales won't increase the budget for new signings, but equally the budget for new signings won't be reduced in the rare event that we don't sell (any) players. We can buy for approx 150M, and those millions must be financed one way or the other. But it doesn't have to be in firm player sales before we can buy. The gross sum is the gross sum, what the net will end up being is unknown at this point. (IM not so fudging humble O).

All well and good but will it mean our choice of CM is then compromised?

People love to moan more than they love the club.

I have not seen enough of him to comment too much but...£70m?

That will make the boy the second most expensive defender...
ever...

at 18...

playing in the Dutch league.

I hope the scouts have done their job properly and know everything about him to risk that amount.

Spending that also goes against what both Levy and Poch have said about spending that much money on a player (see poch’s Book).

Let’s see what happens.

tbh some of us thought 40m+ for sanchez was ridiculous too. now looks like a bargain as the price tag would be similar if we didn't go for him last year. but i don't think de ligt would go for 70m

Guys, no one has a bloody clue how much we’ll spend this summer. It doesn’t work like that. There’s no “war chest”. Payments are paid over instalments, they’re amortised over lengths of contracts, etc. Levy will likely have a figure in mind as a “headline” net outlay but it all depends on the details, how it’s structured, how long contracts are, etc. Furthermore there’s absolutely no way that player sales won’t make a difference. If we raise an extra £50m than expected by selling Lamela/Sissoko for example, that will impact on funds for signings.

All I took from Herc’s ITK is that we’re prepared to spend more than we ever have in a window and we won’t necessarily wait to sell first.

How on earth some of you are turning that into a negative I don’t know!

Net fucking spend again??
Probably the most mundane thing on here.
Yes. It's like people think clubs are awarded extra points for being awful negotiators.

If the club swapped neymar for Sissoko, I'd probably still be reading pages complaints about net spend
