Alot of interesting info there. Whew! Thanks for the ITK as ever!

For those furrowing their brow at the prices, I suppose this is what it takes when wanting to compete at that next level.

I want to be careful how I say this. De Lgit is our main defensive priority signing. If we get the green light from Ajax and player, we would deal, even with Toby still not sold, as we accept, and both sides are amicable, and he is exploring his options, whilst we negotiate with a noted club over here, and abroad. Citeh were keen, but not so much now. Probably to do with them wanting Lgit as well.

I am very reliably informed we in my connections opinion are his preferred. It is about the auction, as Ajax wants as much as 70m for him. If we feel that if we matched that, he would be ours, Daniel would structure a deal whilst he winces. This is the market we are in. My maths reflects a total cost of circa 170m, were we to get our targets. If Martial does not materialise, there is an under the radar player abroad at same age for under 20m, by some stretch. And this one would be a very good signing.

We have a choice of 4 CM’s, some in media, and one not so. We have a specific target in Germany, if we get our maths right.

We are willing to sanction those deals (if they can be done relatively quick) before selling. We would then recover that through Toby, Sissoko, Serge, Wanyama, The 2 N’s, VJ, FL.

Because major clubs are also in for same players, we have to tread carefully. We have been talking since January in some cases, and earlier in others. The negatives is WC, our window. We have to negotiate through this.
Optimist In Me: It is great that we are targeting this calibre of player because this is the market we need to be in to take the next step.

Realist In Me: Quite a few deals just won't work out but as long as we get a couple of first choices we'll be alright.

Pessimist In Me: Man, this is going to be some dragged out stuck in the mud "Let me wait and see if someone comes in at the 11th hour with an insane panic offer" mess of a summer window and I just want to survive it intact and not getting caught overspending on a bomb.

They're welcome to him at that price.
Its possible they are driving the price up on us to keep us away from other targets - but if the price actually went that high, I imagine DL structures it in a very favorable manner - with significant add-ons to reach that price.

I look at it this way - if we get him - we are a better team over the next 5-7 years, than if we miss out. I'll let Levy worry about the finances.

De Ligt is considered the better prospect between he and Davinson Sanchez.

There is a reason Man City are in for him - when they could have any defender in the world.
I have not seen enough of him to comment too much but...£70m?

That will make the boy the second most expensive defender...
ever...

at 18...

playing in the Dutch league.

I hope the scouts have done their job properly and know everything about him to risk that amount.

You know what, I'm usually quite easy and don't really give a toss about prices but something in me just went full on (temporarily) BSoDL. That's an insane amount of money for a kid.

70m!!! Jeeeeez

That is just too much
While the market is pretty crazy, this sort of money for a teenage centerback is mind boggling. We are through the looking glass and beyond. How much would Tah cost by comparison?
I can’t understand why Levy would wince painfully. With the exception of Citeh I think every team on the planet would do this deal with gritted teeth. I don’t care how good he might be in the future... 70m is still a gargantuan risk. My fingers are crossed that we can walk back the cost or look elsewhere. If we want to splash 70m, I’d much rather it be on a badass CM or two!
Then again, if Poch wants the guy, who are we to question his judgment?

True. But even if Citeh bought the kid for 70m, the media would still unleash a collective: “WOW”!

Thats exactly what i thought. I have never baulked at player prices and what we do or don't spend, even when we spunked 30m on Sissoko (at the time)

BUT 70m, that is huge and quite frankly scary.

It's ok if it's 30m up front. 20m when we win the league and another 20m when we win the Champions League...(y)

This at least confirms Poch wants to go to a back 3 again which means if he also wants martial he has to be thinking about playing eriksen as one of the two cms?

I must admit that I'm a little bit confused about these figures. If Herc says 170 gross, and:

De Ligt = 70
Martial = 60 approx

That is only leaving 40 for a CM (possibly 2)?

Also seems to rule out any chance of Bale, and where does it leave Sessengon?

Not putting this directly to you by the way Herc, just trying to figure out the permutations in my frazzled, tired brain ?

Mr Levy: "Ahh, Mr LexingtonSpurs, what can I do for you?

Season Ticket renewal?

Of course! Your £1,200 Ticket again this year?

No problem...that'll be £2,500 please....

Don't mind me, just worrying about the finances..."

Livid that we once again, as per tradition with Pochettino, is trying to sell a player after twelve months. If Pochettino can't see how to improve Aurier, who I think already is a highly capable player despite a few obvious flaws, then I don't understand this "great coach" label that's attributed to Pochettino. In my view, improving Aurier over the summer should be the easiest of all the squad.

Is £70mil that crazy? Considering VVD went for £75mil. And de Ligt has arguably outshone him when playing for Holland. Considering we paid in excess of £50mil for Davinson, forking out an extra £20mil for his ex-teammate who’s younger and was considered the more talented of the two at Ajax doesn’t seem that mental.

So. DL would grudgingly pay 70 but due to the competition for de Ligt we are concerned that another club would come along and go above that valuation (which is our ceiling)....so we are trying to figure out a way to get this done without that happening.
