Transfer window always makes me smile - it's reached a stage where agents, managers and those specifically involved with the transfer and contract of a player can say, "No, there's no story here - contract in place, happy where they are, manager not selling" but that doesn't weigh up against a speculative journo and that feeling of hope :)

We're a funny bunch, but it's a reflection of the way football works now; contracts are basically worth dick.

I'm still hearing it's not on the cards at all. Things change and all that but my source on this one is pretty close.
Shame.

Although I hope people don't get angry if we don't sign Bale and 'only' end up with someone like Martial.

Disagree removed @Lighty64. I actually agreed with what you said, unfortunately fat finger pressed X button! Duly changed! Chimbonda was a return failure we know, but I was in agreement that our players return and add bring something to the party.
Let's hope Bales comes back and tops all of them.
Which of course he most definitely would...

As long as he remembers there is no “I” in team

The only way that would annoy me is if we had every chance of signing Bale, but chose not to in favour of the younger player with more potential and future re sale value.

In reality though I’m not even so sure Bale is going to leave Mardrid and it’s still a bit of a pipe dream.

Martial is a good player and Poch could probably coax more out of him than Mourinho. Would still be a decent signing, but I think some are overstating his impact.

Love that we have ITK on a player of his stature, but I'd much rather we focus on our attention on a similar caliber player that:
- plays CM
- demands less wages
- is much younger than 29
- less injury prone
- hasn't already left us for big money.

If Bale falls on our lap on the cheap a la VDV at the end of the window then I'm all for it. If this is our big signing then it just feels a bit... West Hammy.

Honestly gutted if we can’t get Bale and I see it as a pipe dream. However I would be absolutely chuffed to bits if we did get Martial.

Thanks for the info, as always @Trix, it's much appreciated. Can't help feeling a bit disappointed though I think he would be great for us. Let's hope that whoever we sign will work out well.

I would guess that it’s always been a long shot, but not completely off the radar. Hence this may be Levy’s kind of deal, imagine the kudos he’d get going in to the new stadium and re-signing Bale?! He knows this too, it would be mega for the club and for him personally. His defining moment no doubt.

Life must be very cold when you have no dreams.
Mind you would love him back here but even if Madrid sell him he would join one of he Manchester clubs over us.Don't get why everyone's convinced he would return to us as it would be a major step back in his career.

He's nearly 29, got a history of injury and Zidane ain't a fan by all accounts. I completely disagree: I think we'd be a fantastic option.
