He still seems to be quite easily shunted off the ball if his opponent can get near him. Need to develop 10 lbs to a stone of upper body muscles so that he can lean onto opponents going shoulder. to shoulder with him

It's not size, if anything he's carrying too much weight. It's about technique. He's always so upright and straight legged.

I posted in the youth thread, but Onomah has made the 3rd most tackles per 90mins for players that have made over 20 appearances, not bad considering his reputation/the narrative

Crazy when you consider that he's been played at LW/RW/AM and even false 9 more than he's been played as a CM.

Even after his MOTM performance on Saturday I’ve seen some Villa fans say he doesn’t deserve to be starting.

They are a little bit thick, or salty that he isn’t theirs (or both).

One of my mates is a big Villa fan, goes to most of the home games and a fair few away games. I frequently ask him how Josh is doing and he frequently just describes him as “Patchy” like some games (such as the 4-0 with a couple of assists) he said he had an amazing game, yet other times he has been completely vacant and missing.

To his defence, he went on to say that he has played loads of different positions this year, and he isn’t sure Villa was necessarily the best place for him to play, under Bruce especially.

Seems like he has been solid, but not necessarily progressed again...

I still have a hunch that Onomah will be our breakout star next season. But i did say that before his loan this season too, so what do I know.

There's absolutely a player there.

I just want to say how well Josh has done at Aston Villa recently, being played in different positions almost every game, having fans turn against him and the loan seemingly ending negatively he has reacted superbly going up a gear.

His recent stats are simply insane,

Against Preston, 5 dribbles, 6 tackles, 83% passing accuracy.

Against Ipswich, 2 dribbles, 5 tackles, 92% passing accuracy, 2 Assists

Against Leeds, 7 dribbles, 3 tackles, 81% passing accuracy

The stats for his last three starts, to put that in context most players in the PL who are known for dribbling manage an average of two a game and a similar amount for tackles. But more importantly what interests me is how he has developed and faced adversity in such a positive manner getting his head down and putting in great performances. A good showing in the Play offs and he is well set to compete for time next season.

This is why we send people on loan.

Nice post, also he is in the top 10 progressive passers from midfield over the season.

Would love to see his distance covered stat, I believe he does more than meets the eye, even taking into account being moved around all of the place and adapting to a completely different style of football to what he was raised on

Wrote this in the Championship thread. I’m watching Millwall - Villa and yet again Onomah has been good. He’s playing as a CM/AM and is the player that makes them tick. There was one situation where Villa lost the ball, he chased the player down, won the ball and quickly ran up passed it right and ran to the penalty area got a pass from a cut in but his shoot was too weak. He also had another shot on target. He should start the playoffs for them

The only bad thing about him today is that his passing has been inconsistent. He misspassed one and now too much power in the pass

He’s playing more on the left in the second half but he’s cutting in and is trying to move centrally

Twitter said he missed an opportunity was it bad?

He had 3 shots. The first one he should’ve done better but those stupid Villa fans forgot that he was the one that chased the opponent down, won the ball, passed it right, ran In to the penalty area and then his shot was too weak, he should’ve done better but he was the reason that attack happened.

The second shot was bouncing straight to the keeper.

And the third shot was after he got the ball, turns and tried to hit it at the right corner and just missed, very close.

Read my comments above, he had a good game. Started the first half as a CM without the ball and AM with the ball, got the team ticking. This was a very poor and uninspiring Villa team.

On the second half he moved to the left, he tried cutting in and move centrally.
The only thing he was poor at was that his passing was inconsistent
