So if Dele had scored from the pass that Sissoko laid off to him, would opinions of his performance changed? Or would the comments read "bar the assist for the goal, I thought he was shite".

It’s not a case of him being shite. He seems to getting praise and posters saying “he had a good game” just because he wasn’t shite. Sorry but I want waaaay more from a CM that just not being shite. I want a CM controlling the game in the middle. Feeding Eriksen, Dele and Kane. Making things happens, going past a player to make space for those in front. As ES said above he seems to just be a body in he middle and he basically is just meant to give it to a team mate and not fuck up. I want more than that from a Spurs CM.

Can someone give me a reasonable time and or set of requirements Sissoko needs to meet in order for him to give a "good" or even have played "well" for us? I get the impression if he scores or even assists, chances are those events might still not be enough to sway opinion about him.

Who in our current team does the bolded bit you mentioned? I'm new to Spurs and football in general.

I personally think he had a decent showing today. By no means his best performance, but it's a huge improvement from last year and I really hope he can keep playing better and better every chance he gets.

At least he's not looking like a complete fish out of water in this role. Hope he doesn't keep Winks out of the team in the long run but you can see some logic behind using a shovel footed big lad against a fired up Spam team in their cup final.. Especially with Winks coming back from injury and 'Nobes' on the field

Sissoko is ok against lesser teams. But against quality opponents his poor first touch and wayward passing will cost us dear.Id seriously think at just keeping dembele for the big games top 6 and CL. The rest we can handle without him.

Played well today. Harsh to blame him for the goal, it happens in a split second and chicharito is lucky the ball lands on a plate for him.

Alli's touch was an order of magnitude worse today.

It was his man surely he should be keeping tight his player rather than letting their best scorer run free

People are starting to see the value of Sissoko being in the team, hopefully he plays more matches if it benefits the team.

I don't think it's people starting to see the benefit of sissoko in team, it's that sissoko it's starting to bring a benefit to the team

Dembele would be my first choice but he isn’t fit. Winks has shown he is more than capable of playing that roll. He might not have the physical stature of Sissoko but he can do things that Sissoko just doesn’t have in his locker.

There's a set of fans he won't win over. They never wanted him, they've never liked him. You can sit next to fans who criticise him all day when others around him are playing far worse. They've formed their opinion before a games started.

Okay, but even you would admit Dembele has his limitations and has games were he stinks up the place ( see Dortmund). Sissoko spent much of last season playing as RW/RB in a system he was not familiar with while lacking a full pre-season to gain that familiarity and understanding. His confidence took some knocks as the fans were already cringing every time he was on the field.

He then gets some run outs in his preferred position of CM and actually looks decent for us and shows signs of steady improvement. No one is claiming he's a world beater, we're simply recognizing that he's improving and helping the team. I never wanted us to sign him but when you fail to put in context his whole time with us, it's just reads as your slating him because it's the thing to do.

I'm not slating him. I'm saying he isn't good enough for us. Nothing I've seen in these games he's played has changed my opinion. Just because he hasn't been as bad as he was last season doesn't make him good or good enough. He has a poor first touch, he looks nervous with the ball at his feet, his passing is substandard, he loses the ball more often than not when he takes it into contact. Happy to say he's putting in the effort, closing down players in our press. Playing CM when your other CM is a DM requires more than that though. Maybe his confidence is shot to pieces. Problem is it's been shot to pieces for over 2 years.
As for Dembele, yes he was poor in the Dortmund game. He has however shown us again and again that he is top quality. Poch doesn't call him a genius for nothing.

Agree with this. The goal was simply down to an excellently whipped cross in which fonte did well to flick it on. It's one of those you can't really point any fingers at anyone.

Whilst I felt he had a few heavy touches, he is a very disciplined player and him and Aurier were building up an excellent partnership on that right hand side. I'm not worried about how we are defensively with him on the pitch, it's generally his attacking play yet I think Aurier may be key to seeing the best of him.

Good showing today.

As long as the manager keeps picking hIm that kinda suggests that he thinks he's good enough to play...I suspect the reason he picks him is because he brings a completely different skill set to Dembelec and Winks which is benefitting the team and as long as we see positive results which we clearly are then he deserves to play.

Gonna have to suck this one up I'm afraid
