If I understand the explanations from other SCers, the pure profit of the sale hits instantly, whilst the cost of the player purchase is spread over the length of the contract.

It’s clear that for most situations, bids on players are basically an old fashioned thing. Negotiating a price which is agreed by both parties is the new way, and negates the need to bid.
