Uninspiring. Even just as a loan there's an opportunity cost to it.

I absolutely love Ange but with this and BJ I'm mildly concerned by his taste in forwards
I got a feeling Johnson was already in the pipeline before Ange came In.

Seeing what Ange has done with some of our players, it would be interesting to see what he can do with Timo

I don’t know anything. Just giving my opinion like everyone else in this thread.

But my opinion is based on the fact he is 27 yr old who has already struggled to make an impact in the prem, and subsequently is struggling for form in the Bundesliga. Doesn’t really fit with our approach of signing young hungry talent players with huge potential to improve.

But you're ignoring the huge fact that he's going to be playing in a different system and set up under Agne.

What he's done previously isnt that relevant, and certainly not what id be basing most of my opinion on.

Keep an open mind instead of writing the signing off as just a stop gap.

Scouts before he signed for Chelsea wanted him at the club. He was very highly regarded, one of our staff told us that “Chelsea wasted his talent and didn’t use him correctly and his confidence was shot! Get him in an our team and confident and a class player.”

And I guess with Son away at the moment, we can actually get him into the team and get some minutes.

interested to see how Ange uses him and whether his personable approach can get more out of Werner.
And if not, we send him back in six months.

As long as the data aspect of our data driven approach isn't from 8 years ago, I'm excited by this.

This deal when done would have been wrapped up in 48 hours . I knew of intrest however was never sure what player we went with as we had a list of forwards . This alluded to jota when I was told that wasn’t likely as we required a forward who could play all positions . Jota wanted us more than we wanted him. The club kept this very quiet 🤫

What is very encouraging is that he’s coming now not in the last week of the window. Means all being well he should be on the bench for Utd and hopefully up to speed at a basic level by Brentford. Makes a nice change.

Agreed also I’m not his biggest fan ad his finishing is wank however his movement is up there with the best and he will cause havoc with his runs in behind . We have to hope the boys running of him feed of those scraps and get loads of goals of timo doesn’t Finish his dinner

I do wonder if Veliz getting injured plus Utd interest changed our thinking. Jota and Nusa are a very different profile to Werner.

Yep came here to say the same. The difference between this deal and Danjuma is that we need bodies ASAP and the club/ange seem to be on the same wave length.

I don't know if he'll make an impact (hopefully does) or be an option off the bench, but he is PL proven and should settle in quickly.

January is always going to be like this so just very happy he's in quickly. If he smashes it, great we have the option. If not we can reassess for next season 👍

Chelsea played a different style under Tuchel. I have a friend who covers the Bundesliga and he thinks Werner would be more suited to Ange's style.

I'm not over the moon about him, but I don't think we should write him off. We need an attacker and he was great before Chelsea. And even there he had amazing workrate and movement.

It's a bit random.
Is he better than what we have? Is he prolific enough to have an impact. Time will tell but not particularly confident on this based on his Chelsea time.
We don’t have anyone they are all injured or away

Without wishing to compromise the list, how do you feel about Werner vs others on the list?

This is an amazing transfer development, shows that our recruitment team are providing the exact ammunition Ange wants (and what Ange wants is so specific but doesn’t need to be expensive in terms of fees or wages so Levy wouldn’t be an obstacle)

🎯 nobody thought we would be signing a forward
🎯 but ange obviously isn’t happy enough about our attacking output
🎯 ange has often said that we have the most room for improvement in our front 3
🎯 ange often wants his subs to impact the game and score more/late goals to kill off games
🎯 we have a lack of quality attacking options right now (but if full squad is fit, johnson perisic solomon GLC even richie R our possible options off the bench)
🎯 Ange was happy with playing Sonny as #9 because he (1) presses hard (2) makes good runs behind the defence (3) has the pace (and finishing) to beat the opponents n score
🎯 our goals are (I don’t have the exact stats but I reckon) 25–35% finished off via squared balls into the box around 6 yard line >>> think perisic to davies against manu, udogie’s 1st goal, a bunch from sonny deki richie too

So with the above context
+ the fact that Werner is (1) rapid (2) willing to and will press hard (3) had successful goal returns in a pressing team previously (4) should also score all the goals Richie has scored so far & those aforementioned square balls into box
+ the already repeated “who would you prefer off the bench at the 70th min mark to get us some attacking impetus?” when our current options are Scarlett, Sessegnon, Donley, Gil

Nusa would be for the future and not related to this signing btw like sarr and destiny that deal if happens will be a buy to loan back for the season he’s got so many suitors . Jota was only linked from ange he wasn’t a major target on the list compiled he may have been later in the window if we failed for targets. The one ange wanted if gettable was the lad in Holland but don’t think the budget was there this month with a cb signing too . If Pierre goes we will get a cm. We like fofana at Monaco and Connor at Chelsea. However Phillips is probably the most achievable right now as of today that could change as always .

This is one of those where I put my own opinion aside and just view it as I have faith in Ange…

…but of a shrug and a “We’ll see I guess.”

I bet he wished he hadn't made it so clear he didn't want to touch us with a barge pole back then.
