If you think that both those managers were not trying to improve our central defensive options then you are mistaken. Jose had to settle for Rodon and Conte for Lenglet on loan.
Lol Ange came here and immediately all the talk about renewals of Dier and Hojbjerg stopped with both having massively reduced minutes of playing time. It's obvious they both loved them

To be fair, I think you're partially right but also you're not factoring in that when Conte joined we had a spate of signings too (just not enough for him). the true mark of levy backing a manager is usually in the second and third windows, not the first.

Let's face it, if either had been offered VDV they wouldn't have been enthusiastic. They wanted the likes of Skriniar and Bastoni who had other suitors and priorities, so we chased and then had to pivot.
They were their own worst enemies but that was why neither should have been recruited.

They wanted a left centre back not a Central one. Jose wanted Skriniar and Conte wanted Bastoni. They both played Dier a lot. They seemed to be happy enough with him central of a back 3. We also played deeper so his lack of pace wasn't an issue for them. Dier and Hojbjerg were mainstays for both managers. So if they didn't rate them they had a funny way of showing it.

Sorry but both Jose and Conte started him in every game. They did the same with Dier. There was never indication they wanted to replace either of them. Ange has shown he doesn't rate either of them for his brand of football. You can see there's a clear requirement he has that neither of them fit into. That's why he's hardly playing them. There's a clear difference between the managers and the style of football. Hojbjerg fits one and not the other. He's not a bad player just a bad fit for what we have now.
Sorry he is a bad player

He didn’t play well then either. We’ve been shit for a long time.

There was also the clip in the AON documentary where Jose and his assistant are watching Dier and Jose says to his assistant something along the lines of "So impressive".

There is also the discussion they ahd in Jose's office where told him he likes him as a player or he 'wouldn't have tried to sign him".

He was arguably our best player in Mourinho's first season. I still think he's very useful but perhaps not as suited to the current system. Id imagine that Ange is happy to keep him but understandably Højbjerg wants to be playing regularly and may want to leave to achieve that, especially with the Euros in the summer.

I think Dier having that Portuguese link helped him in Jose's eyes.

Let's not kid ourselves. Hojberg is a useful squad player. But with a reported market value of around 20m then we have to sell

Hojbjerg is a good player but he’s not that great when played as a number 6 in Ange’s system. I think he’d be much more effective as a back up to Sarr rather than Bissouma. But injuries have meant he keeps playing as a number 6.

In all fairness to dier he was playing well under conte, then got back in the England squad

Yeah but we will also need to replace him, we just don’t have the depth. Going forward, sarr, bissouma, bents and Maddison are our key midfielders, glc will go and so we need backup

Yeah - Dier is much maligned - unfairly.

He is not a good fit for Ange's tactics, but he can still play CB in this league if that is what he wants. It just needs to be a team that sits a little deeper, and not insistent on playing possession-based football.

Different players for different tactics.

Nothing more to see here.

Got a chance playing Sarr’s position vs Wolves and didn’t impress.

I still like him but I do think there’s an argument he’s never been the same since he was ill.

Also I’m not sure he’s a natural centre back.
