so a business guy is going to appoint a football guy... not optimistic about this:facepalm:
Ultimately that's how every hierarchy starts unless your CEO/Owner is a football guy.

However that's also why you see a lot of US sports teams use search firms for hiring sports executives.

I mean we would be sacking him to replace him with the new DoF/Chief Scout, we would have given him his 2/3 months notice. If we have a new DoF lined up, that seems to have been the case for a while, its a pretty good guess that he would want his own backroom staff including chief scout.
Right - but, in reality - you don't have to sack Gabbanini to bring in a new DOF, or even a new chief scout.

You simply hire the new staff, and change the structure so that Gabbanini reports to the new chief scout. If Gabbanini is a good scout - then you would always want his input - even if you want a new chief scout and/or DOF.

You don't get rid of good employees.

So, I am inclined to believe that something has gone on behind the scenes - maybe akin to insubordination upon learning of a new chief scout or DOF>

No, you don't. But he's been reported, both earlier this summer and when joining us, to be a potentially difficult character that can come across as arrogant and abrasive. Sounds to me like the Conte of scouts.
Could be insubordination, could be he's just not someone you want at the club with the new direction we're going and the improving atmosphere.

The Guardian's take on the story is that Gabbanini did well when he took on what he knew to be a temporary promotion, and now wants to stretch himself in a new environment. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...bbanini-leaves-with-new-sporting-director-due

Isn't Gabbanini supposed to be good? Or was he just an input and Big Pat is still fully running things in the background so minimal disruption.

We've only just got back to recruiting well. Don't want that interrupted.

Distinct possibility they've used a specialist football industry headhunting company to lead the hire.
Also, distinct possibility that in such a "small" industry the top guys would know most, if not all, of the top guys. Even if Munn was working mainly in Asia, my bet is he'd still have good knowledge of the best scouts and directors in Europe.

Remember when we brought in Paratici we also appointed a number of scouts. Im assuming the club only has space for a certain number of scouts. Whoever the new DoF is could well want to have a team that he knows and trusts coming in. Furthermore maybe Gabbanini didn't want to be demoted, maybe its a simple as he wanted to keep his role as chief scout or get the DoF job and the new DoF wanted his own set up which left Spurs with a decision.. Sack him or go against the new DoF's wishes. Once you have a seat at the table, and do a good job whilst your in it, I can completely understand why one might not want to step back down.

Yes in theory you don't get rid of good employees but if the new boss has a different set up that doesn't have space for those already at the club what do you do? I don't think there has to be something untoward going down. A complete restructuring of a company or division (which seems to be the case with our supposed move to a data approach + new DoF) will often have casualties that just don't fit into the new set up regardless how good the individual is.

Of course you may be right, maybe he was fed up with being undermined (supposedly he wasn't keen on Johnson per ITK) and also didn't like being looked over for DoF so pulled a hissy fit. I can't see it personally but you never know. Ether way hopefully we will get some ITK on the matter. Ether way It is disappointing tho and feels like we are loosing out on a top quality scout
