He’s busy, works hard and never stops giving it all, as a player I really like him, but also worries me that I can’t see what he brings to the team other than business truth be told.

I’d rather Sarr over him personally. For me, not quite at the level we need, but then again, I’m also not the manager so I don’t see what goes on in training.

would love for him to have a blinding season though

On the ball I agree with everything you’ve said about Skipp. His technique is just not quite what it should be for a lad that’s spent his whole life in an academy. It feels and looks like he has to focus entirely when he takes a first touch and his passing seems the same way, where you’d expect a player that’s done that day in day out their entire life to make that stuff look effortless and most PL midfielders do.

However I do think the thing that saves him is he makes off the ball work that other players make look hard look very easy. He knows exactly when to engage when teams counter and which channels and passing lanes to close off, when he’s fit he’s got a real burst of pace (he’s looking fitter now actually going by pre-season) and he times tackles incredibly well. I think physically he’s very decent, he covers a lot of ground and has that short burst of pace that can make all the difference and mentally in terms of reading the game defensively I think he’s very good, he’s got a really high IQ. Technically he is lacking though, I agree with you and I do see what you see in that regard.
Thanks mate and really great points, totally agree his off the ball work and positioning and tackling is very good which as you say probably makes up a bit for his touch and passing not quite being as good as they could be.

He’s HG and club trained. I don’t think he’s ever going to develop into a special player but he’s a hard working dedicated guy who won’t complain if he isn’t starting week in week out. You know what you get with him and he will always put 100% in. Every good team needs the odd player like him to round out the squad. No he wouldn’t be a regular starter for me but still a very good player to have.

I think it’s horses for courses tbh. I think Sarr is definitely more talented and will end up being the better player but I could understand why Ange started Skipp on Sunday as Brentford are such a threat on the counter and Skipp is good in those situations

Time and time again, he’s just so poor and clumsy.

He’s not good enough and anyone that thinks the opposite is just delusional at this point.

this lad had wayyyyyy to much hype, if he wasn't through our ranks, people would be more honest about his ability

He literally hides from the CBs when they need to pass to him.

Skipp and Hojbjerg should never be seen again in a midfield together.

I hope they both get sold.

I noticed this too, has now been amplified now the busy and industrious sarr is in the team, he constantly. hides, his not an ange player for sure

Honestly Winks still has more to contribute with when I have seen Leicester games. Skipp has to be the most overrated own product, not even a starter in the England u21 squad.

I think he got a good reputation by getting into the Championship team of the year at such a young age.

He excelled at Championship level so it's silly to go OTT and thinking he's useless.

My guess is he'll come up short for the level we require. I hope he stays this season as 4th choice and Ange will need to be ruthless if my guess as to his level is correct.

I'm one of his biggest fans, but tonight was probably the worst game I've seen him play for us. I still believe that he is never going to be good enough to play as one of the #8's in this system and deserves a shot where Hojbjerg was tonight.

Even so, he was constantly late getting to his man and embarrassingly turned by their CMs time and again, something that never seemed to happen when he broke through. After the yellow card, he got worse.

With regards to the "hiding from the ball" comments. Sarr was doing it too after he came on and I think it's likely by instruction. It's something that de Zerbi was getting a lot of credit for last season and there are few good videos on it. The essentials of it are that he isn't there to receive the ball with his back to goal but is there to receive the ball off the player the CB is passing to, thus facing forwards and able to be more effective.

Really need to be finding some talent from the academy. I fear whilst Skipp is clearly a PL level player that's about as high as he will go and we might need to make a tough decision next summer. Having said that, he's never a number 8 for me and has always looked better when he's played deeper.

He's beginning to remind me of a tougher minded Winks i.e. you come away from the game thinking WTF does he do. In fairness to Skipp though, he does at least stick the boot in. He was highly rated by Mourinho. That in of itself should have been a red flag. Still, he's safe for now as he's HG.

I was hoping Devine or Nile John would have stepped up from the academy to replace the likes of Skipp, who in honesty is short of the desired quality we need irrespective of his HG status.

If we sell Skipp we'll be in big trouble for Europe in particular where you need club trained lads. I agree though if he was a foreigner there would be huge question marks about his future.

Stick one of the kids in, at least there will be potential for some upside.

Players like Skipp and giving them chance after chance is the problem.

Definitely an argument to bring one of the academy midfielders to the bench.
