Brentford applying pressure maybe best thing that can happen here. Force Levy into concluding a deal quicker. Would be a big black eye if Brentford pay the money and we won’t for our manager’s top target.

My reading of some of the ITK info is that we're not just entering into negotiations now.and its been going on for a little while.
Yep, It would make absolutely no sense whatsoever if we hadn't got a fair way down the road with this one, at least with the player and his agent and some knowledge about the likelihood of Forest selling - i'm sure there must be a fair bit of negotiating still to do but i would be shocked if we didn't think we had a good chance of landing him , it''d be a massive waste of time otherwise.

What I don't understand is if it is such a tough deal to do why are we only entering negotiations now.

Because a lot of our business is done this way, close to the deadline exerts more pressure to get favourable terms.

We've always operated like this (under ENIC) unless we're doing deals like Maddison where the value is there immediately.

Fully agree with you, but that's the reasoning.

Brentford or no Brentford, we have to be quick. The window is closing in a couple of days.

Though it could possibly speed up the process of figuring out exactly what Forest are willing to accept to let him go.

Brentford bid 40 million

If Forrest really want £50-55 mil for him I’m guessing this will get turned down pretty quickly. Unless of course there are a large add ons. Ether way I’m sure Forrest will be hoping it starts a bidding war.

Brentford may have bid £40 mil, but that means nothing if Johnson doesn't want to go there. If reports are true that he wants Spurs. We will get him at a price and deal we are happy with.

I'm not sure they'd get much of a bidding war from these two teams, both are very much the sort to have a valuation and stick to it, rather than going all Chelsea on a transfer.

Forest's chairman is Greek, so this could be one where Ange gets on the phone and tells that malaka to just accept the bid.

I maybe way off but if I'm Johnson and it's Tottenham or Brentford telling forest there is no way I'm going to Brentford. What's the point?

And I'd say that for another 7 or 8 clubs if they were in for him against Brentford. It's barely a sideways step

I thought 40M would be the number even it gets rejected I don't see us going much over And I think NF will accept it

But it will still set a baseline price. I’m very curious to see how highly we are willing to go for him. You’re right that I don’t see ether us or Brentford going much above it but i wouldn’t be surprised if Forrest still manage to get a few extra mil in add ons etc because of our mutual interest. Ether way I’m sure Forrest will be trying to encouraging us and any other potential suitors to compete.

With Richarlison struggles & forward line in transition certainly Johnson top pick should be Spurs… especially with a manager like Ange

But it’s not down to him anyway

Not down to Johnson?

I think it is in the sense that how we see N'dombele refuse to go to certain places . If he doesn't get a move because he refuses to go to Brentford it's not like he won't play.

My point is I think he will say no thanks to Brentford thus no bidding war

As much as I respect how Brentford go about things, I’d say Forest are a way bigger club. Might be an old fashioned way of seeing things, but Brentford are punching well above their weight even being in the premier league. So yeah, I wouldn’t see the point in him moving there right now.
