This isn't the old days where we had ginola (not world class but way ahead of most in league) and pretty much shite around him. Kane has much better players around him so we can have a world class player in a very good team
That’s avoiding the point. If we could sell him, and be left with a better side (because we’d reinvest it) I’d do that every time.

In practise it’s clearly not that simple. But my feeling is that even in a best case scenario we’ll only have him for one year

I'm 40 so I've seen 2 world class players live in person one being bale (2012-13 season) and Kane (last 6 years).
God knows when we'll get another one and we all know we won't be buying a ready made one so want to enjoy the hell out of him for one last season.
Modric was world class aswell

The list of teams with a higher net spend than Spurs - right now - before we spend £80M on CBs is:
I'm not just talking about this season though, I'm talking about every season stretching back for a good few years.

And I'm not a great fan of the whole net spend stuff because none of us know how transfers are structured, or for how long.

The example I tend to reach for is Forest buying about 30 players last year, or Arsenal spending every year for the last umpteen, or Villa spending left right and centre.

I'm not one for the whole accounting/net spend stuff because I don't really understand it but what I do understand is that most other clubs find the money to spend when and where they need it.
We don't but yet we've got one of the highest revenues in world football.

Can we really not afford to speculate to accumulate? Especially when it's European football and the possible future of Kane at risk?!

Confirmed the recent contacts between PSG and Tottenham by Harry Kane.

▪️ In the last few hours the parties have spoken again about the possible transfer of the English striker to Paris. There is good harmony between the owners of the two clubs, but at the moment no agreement.

▪️ The player knows of the very strong interest of Bayern and has not yet made a decision.

▪️ Thomas Tuchel, under pressure to sign him now.

Kane theme.

There is one important person who is playing a pivotal role in Harry Kane's poker, thanks to his close relationship with Levy and Al-Khelaïfi.

Bayern are pressing and Tuchel is crazy to sign him, but PSG are making shadow moves.

Might be just that I watch football far more romantically and emotionally these days but I can't really understand the idea of selling maybe our best ever player to bring in a few relative unknowns; particularly center backs. Feels like far more risk than reward.
There's absolutely no reason we should have to sell to buy though.

The only reason we are in this situation is because we constantly buy on the cheap to fill gap very important positions. Rodon, Lenglet, Gedson Fernandes, Vinicious, just a few off the top of my head where we have gone cheap or a cheap loan rather than properly addressing the situation desperately needed at the time.

Had we'd paid the money for Skriniar or Bastoni we probably wouldn't be in this situation where we are desperate for quality centre backs.

When you constantly go for the cheaper option, option 3/4/5 then you'll end up with a bloated squad full of deadwood you cant get rid off.

Spend well once in important postions and that position will be sorted for many years, keep trying to save by going with cheaper options you'll end up spending way more.

Baffling Levy hasn't realised this yet.

Would love it if he went to PSG.

Obviously stay is the ideal situation but would be hillailrious to see the German media reaction.

So to summarise, we had £150m to spend and we chose not to spend £50m of it - even though we desperately needed another CB. Conte's lack of commitment was apparently a reason for it...now it could suddenly be that we need to sell Kane in order to buy 2 CBs. Its the same old story.

Anyway im derailing things here so apologies all, I'll leave it now.
But I do think we’ve done as many signings as we can without moving anyone on. In fact I reckon we only did Maddison because we knew Winks was out the other way. Equally Solomon for Moura.

Our squad is fat. We need to trim it. We’re operating classic one in one out no trainers you touch it you wash it late 90s clubbing.

Levy on the phone to his mate in Paris asking him to bid £150 million so Bayern up there offer. Surely not???

I assume that is where this is coming from - but it does make me wonder why Bayern don't reach out to PSG to get Mbappe for cheap - unless Mbappe is set on RM next season.

Would you agree to allow Kane to move to PSG on loan for free year if he agreed to sign a new deal and for us to pay for Mbappe for a loan for one year for 30m?

Eni Aluko over here.
It's kind of the opposite. She said the bidding club get another club to bid which is ridiculous as they might have a bid accepted. Getting another rival to make a bid or assume to make a.bid is actually clever

The list of teams with a higher net spend than Spurs - right now - before we spend £80M on CBs is:

1. Arsenal

And that's the end of the list. Nobody is spending £80M without blinking.

I have no idea where this idea comes from that we can continue to spend - in the face of declining revenue, no less. Somewhere people have gotten the wrong impression of our financial position. We are currently 2nd in net spend this summer. We need to sell - maybe not Kane, but we need to sell several players to Saudi Arabia, but nobody seems to be a willing buyer for less than chump change.

If you look at Net Spend including last season:

Chelsea
Arsenal
Man United
Newcastle
Spurs (if you add another £80M we would be 3rd - and we needed £100M from ENIC)

If you go back to include 21/22 just swap Arsenal and Chelsea. Liverpool are 6th, and have a net spend of £100M less than Spurs since 21/22

The 5 teams listed above are the only teams who have averaged 80M net spend across the last 3 seasons. If you take out those 5 teams, the remaining 9 teams who have been in PL all 3 season have averaged £85M net spend TOTAL across all 3 seasons.
I know you keep beating the same drum but it’s not necessarily about net spend. What is really about is the club being decisive and going out and buying the players that are needed to ensure that we are as competitive as the teams you mention. If you have a proper scouting and analytics departments then it shouldn’t mean that you necessarily need to spend mega bucks on players. As many have noted the likes of Brighton and Brentford have paid peanuts for quality players like McAllister, Caceido, Toney etc. In the past we’ve done similar with likes of Dele, Walker, Rose, and even Eriksen and Toby. It’s not not spending money that frustrates the hell out of me - I don’t give a monkey how much a player costs - it’s the lack of a clear plan going into a transfer window!

Knowing exactly what positions in the squad we need to improve, knowing which(list of) players we’ve pinpointed as achieving that goal and just going out and getting them asap. We did that at the beginning of the window successfully but we’ve ground to a halt over CB candidates which everybody agrees are the positions that are in most need of an upgrade. Quite often that is because of the policy of selling before buying which shouldn’t be necessary if we were more ruthless in moving on players who are surplus to requirements. Maybe if we bought who we needed first we’d have more incentive to move the surplus out quicker. As I alluded to earlier it’s the lack of decisiveness more than a lack of money that is holding us back.
