I think it explains why son has been so shit this year

He struggled with 2 games a week after having covid. It’s possible the increased level of fitness he’s being asked to do hasn’t agreed with him.

A new manager might help.

I know people here don't have much time for Tim Sherwood but I found his recent talksport interview quite interesting.
The abridged response to "who do you blame?" Everyone has to share the responsibility but the main culprits have been whoever is managing the recruitment at the club for the last 5 years.

Hasn't been bad under paratici, most are working out. Lack of cb's, Ndombele and lo Celso have been the been the biggest cock ups.

Yeah. I would go as far as to say the last two years have been our best run of transfers in roughly a decade or more. And in my view, we haven't even seen the best of most of these signings yet. Some, like Richarlison, Bissouma, Sarr and Porro, have barely been integrated. Others, like Romero and Kulusevski, have already made a big impact but appear to have very high ceilings.

Under a more progressive coach, we would all be excited by this squad's sheer potential and ability. Instead, we have spent most of this season debating the scale of influence Davies and Dier have on performances and squabbling about how 'toxic' or not this group of players are.

I don't think you can underestimate the confidence the rest of the squad would have with an absolute leading CB.

I like dier on a personal level but fact he is the cornerstone of this defence is criminal. I'd say 3 transformational signings and we're not in bad shape.

2Cb and an creative press resistant cm/cam.

This along with the fact no player thanked him on SM as players usually do goes some way into showing how bad it was.

This was obviously the case, but fans will make up in their head that it’s just the players they don’t like (aka: Dier, Sanchez, Davies) that turned against Conte. In fact everyone wanted him out. Kane was posting burger commercials rather than wishing him well on Instagram.

Lovely from the lads, hopefully on Monday they can back this.

I'm a bit surprised of how it got this bad but can only assume his post Southampton rant was the norm behind closed doors. What an expired manager.

It's a narrative that started when things went wrong with Mourinho and has never made much sense.

I understand why people are frustrated we are still having to use Davies and Dier as regular starters; I really do. But it seems highly implausible that they are malevolent characters stirring unrest behind the scenes. Probably the opposite in fact, they're a bit too nice.

It's also highly implausible to imagine Mourinho and Conte - coaches with huge personalities and massive amounts of experience - struggling to deal with the "toxic" influences like Davies or Sanchez. I mean, come on...

The hate Dier gets - a guy who does shit like this without fanfare and comes across as an intelligent, thoughtful bloke - just because he makes mistakes is fucking disgusting.

More surprised at how players can give ultimatum nowadays... Are they not contracted to the club as employees and being paid to train, first?

Yep I agree Paraciti has made some excellent recruitments for us.

Depending on his ban you’d have expected him to also have been scouting goalkeepers and centre backs hard for the summer, it did take the gooners 3 transfers windows under Arteta to get the squad to level they wanted.

This season if we’d have played 4-3-3 with Bissouma in there alongside Bentancur and PEH (and then Skipp when he returned from injury) and had not played such negative football I reckon we wouldn’t have looked to poor in so many games and allowed our front three to have more freedom.

Concerns do remain over centre back to partner Romero, but we’re hardly a fortress with a back three this season anyways.

Dier seems a great lad. All the managers have loved him. That original tweet couldn’t have been further from the mark. Sure he might not be the greatest but I really doubt anyone could accuse him of not trying.

I've been a big critic of Dier over the last few years yet I've never seen him show a lack of effort. I don't even want to move him out. I just don't think he's good enough to be a starting CB for a side with top 4 ambitions. As a rotation/cover option I'm more than happy to keep him.

Agree on this, he might not be very good but there is a reason he stays around. You read so much on how much of a nice fella he is not only to fans but team mates. I read something from Porro recently on it

Seeing some of the tweets yesterday and the ones shared in this thread:

I didn't love to see that players are giving "ultimatums" saying its them or the manager. To me, just kind of shows that the players can down tools whenever they want and force a decision, which has seemed like a one too common theme over since the Poch days.

I also think (as we probably know) too many supporters are quick to scapegoat certain players being the ones that didn't like Conte's training sessions. For example, Romero/Richy are both newer to the squad. Same thing - when Davies plays well for 3-4 matches, no one says a peep - when he makes his first mistake (as most players do) the tweets I see are "Ben Davies is still a player at this football club" lol
