I happy to give players and managers time, but at somepoint you need to start to see something to show improvement.
Completely agree mate, I was all aboard the Conte train for a lot of this time but evidence must be taken into consideration and as you say there has unfortunately been very little signs of improvement for most of if not all of this season and that is after signing 8 new players (Summer & Jan), yes injuries need to be factored in as do the deaths that have effected the squad and Conte but those excuses can't be held onto forever.

The City game was an improvement but the we went back to the same old vs Leicester and AC Milan so the trend doesn't seem to be positive in terms of much improvement unfortunately which is why along with the unwatchable at times style of play, I've swung heavily towards letting Conte go back to his family in Italy asap.

I think we are 4 players away from being title contenders. A keeper, 2 cb and one creative midfielder. Everything is there. We are among the top scorers in the PL along city and arsenal. We are just leaking goals like crazy. I think if we sell son in the summer and strengthen In those positions I mentioned, and have a front 3 of Kane, Richy and Kulu we would be well up there. It frustrates me because I know we are close now.
I’d add a new strike force to that, given their current age and time it would take to recruit those decent enough additions

Well, as I always suspected, Spurs check my posts when making big decisions...just surprised it was so fast. Two posts after I suggested Stellini manage til season's end... Voila.

People are wringing their hands about AC's appointment and everything's bad now etc...but I don't see it like that. Conte did a brilliant job last season for the CL. That's what I'll remember from his time with us.

Then, I'm a little bit excited to see how Stellini fares. Its a huge opportunity for the man and he must be excited too. Previously intended elite managers have fallen through and understudies have been great...so you never know.

...and I kinda like Stellini..with the ears and the mangled nose and quiet softly spoken manner. Me, I'm a happy man as the sensible decision has been made. COYS !

I wish Conte a speedy recovery and good health ❤️

But this is the beginning of the end isn’t it, I fully expect in the next couple of weeks a mutual agreement for him to leave.

I imagine now we’re sounding out a new manager.
Good post on two counts. Health is more important than anything.

Smoke and fire and all that. I’d imagine we’ve been talking quietly to Poch for months.

So sad for him and us. Looking to me as if we will be lucky to see him back in the UK as Spurs Manager. Hope his recovery goes well and he recovers to his old self.

But we have no real LB, we have 1 CB who can play in a 2, we have no real 10 (kulu has played there). Not sure it would work at all with poch without signings.
Ben Davies is a real left back?

Granted, i‘d prefer Reggy or Udogwie there, but he can do a solid job until end of season.

If we played a midfield three might protect the back four a bit better too.

Perisic I’d be tempted to try as an attacking midfielder if legs gone too much for out wide.

We’re stuck in no man’s land a bit.

The football, and the results, are clearly not improving.

There’s no obvious candidate to take over (no, i don’t want poch and think we should look forward not backwards) immediately and we (levy&co) clearly do not want to pay him out when his contract expires in 3 months.

So we’re pretty much admitting defeat this season due to a lack of willingness to pay out 3 months of a contract.

It’s a bit shit isn’t it?

Just heard the news re. Conte.
Hope he enjoys being home with his family, gets some r&r and recovers his spark.

What a sad period we have had since that CL final.

I'd agree but only if we have the next guy lined up ready to go now, and we are intending to build with him and have a plan of how to do so. I know it's not been great of late, but at the same time I do not want us to be pinning our remaining season hopes on Ryan Mason again. That's not a slight on Mason btw, it's just too soon for him.

just out of curiosity, would you take poch back?

i was utterly against it a few months back when rumours started - but now I’m sort of thinking it MAY not be that bad an idea if he can utilise the academy the way he did when he first arrived.

Yea putting the football to one side what’s happened this year to Conte does put things in perspective a bit doesn’t it, we are all here arguing the toss on tactics, players, managers etc when really there are more important things.

One thing we can never question imo is Contes commitment and dedication to the job and to doing his very best and giving 110% every day he’s been at the club, for that if he stays longer or goes this summer either way I think we all will hold him in good regard for the effort he put in as our manager and wish him and his family well wishes and most importantly good health if/when he returns to Italy ???? ?

Spot on. Poch was a terrible talent identifier but a brilliant, brilliant coach. Sarr and Spence would’ve excelled under Poch this season.

Poch, allied with financial backing and a good recruitment team, would be a huge success. I’m sure of it.
If he agrees to use a recruiting team, he was hell bent on his choice or nobody before apparently.

Am I the only one who wants Conte to stay? I just feel this guy is getting close to putting all the pieces together and just needs the summer to recruit in a few key positions to make us serious title contenders next season.

I feel the same. I like him as a character and really wish we can find success with him at the helm. I think some of the criticisms against him - e.g. not being passionate the past week (totally disregarding his recent surgery and personal losses) - have been below the belt and unfair.

That being said, a lot of the criticism against the football we've been playing as of late is warranted and I'm in agreement that we're on a downward trajectory. Even during the opening months of this season, if we fell behind during a game I'd have faith that we could nick back a goal or two in the closing minutes and grind out a win/draw. Now it's getting a lot harder to see where those goals will come from without conceding more goals and while I don't solely lay blame on his feet (injuries, out of form key players, defenders that need upgrading), I wish that he would do more to improve things.

Essentially I've come to terms with the fact that he's leaving, and hope that we can end the season on a positive note to end his tenure. I'd much prefer that than to see yet another manager leave on bad terms.

so why would poch come back if he knows levy and what levys like, is poch foolish to think Levy will change ? or is he just happy to have a job back in the PL?

Maybe he'd accept that it was partly his fault that things went pear shaped and he played his part in the zero signings fiasco by refusing everyone bar DeJong who only wanted to go to Barca. Maybe he's realised that the grass isn't greener and that he didn't do himself any favours at the end of his tenure and that not everything was Levy's fault.

Stellini and Mason masterminded the City win with Dier pushing up and putting pressure on the central midfield. Maybe they have some other good ideas? We'll soon find out!

We aren't competing for the title any time soon but then i didn't imagine we'd be fighting for the title this season. Too much needs to be done and i don't trust the current owners to do it.

Hopefully, as against Leicester it looked like Dier was still doing this while the other 2 CB's were also pressing at times.
Caused all sorts of problems with them pushing up one minute and then dropping back the next.

That's literally Conte's tactic. I don't understand why people think they were suddenly instructing the team to do new stuff
