We’ve written off the contracts of Aurier and Doherty.

If we get anything for him I’ll be surprised.
Crazy to think he thought he was too good for Spurs and wanted to go play for someone like PSG/Madrid/Barcelona.

Happily take a discount. Even if they give us 10m for him I’d jump at the chance

I fear that instead of discount on buying fee, they were asking for a discount for the loan itself? Like the loan fee/restruct of the splitting of wage?

Consider the current state of Seria A is not impossible...

Gutted he never worked out, there were moments of brilliance from him. I remember the 1st half again Bayern, I thought he was outstanding and could have had 2 or 3 assists.

But even in that game he was a huge part of the reason we got absolutely battered

It’s a huge problem with players on big wages in the prem lge and no one can take them on those wages.
Clubs end up paying them to go or subsidising their wages when they have gone.
Arsenal have paid off Ozil, Aubameyang, Sokratis, Mustafi and the big lad from Serbia. No one mentions it because their replacements are flying .
give it a few years when Chelsea are trying to move someone who still has 4 yrs left on his 8 yr contract
UEFA say they are going to limit contracts to 5 years. What has it to do with them how an employer wishes to pay their employee.
how can they do this. They can’t l8mit wages.

I might be wrong, so happy to be corrected, but I don't think UEFA are going to limit contracts to five years. It is that they will limit the period over which the payments for the transfer can be paid to five years. So a seven year contract can still be awarded, but the payment schedule must be complete within five.

And more importantly, limit the period of time the club's financial accouts can amortise the player's value over to five years.

Chelsea paid £80m for Mudryk but gave him an 8 year contract. Club accounts will then write £10m off his value per year. Had he only got a 5 year contract, or had the new UEFA rules been in play for this window, the write-off would have been £16m a year and thus a significantly bigger dent in their accounts.

Maybe, but they seemed to score with every shot they had, which was insane. It was just a crazy game

Was at that game. It was the last great performance under Pochettino yet we got slapped 7-2...

Scoreline doesn't tell the whole story though. We were still in the game with 30 minutes to go and, as you say, they just scored with every shot while we dominated the first half yet went in behind.

And yes Tanguy carved them open again and again first half but was a big reason we got torched the other way.

He is extremely talented. He just doesn’t have the drive to turn talent into more
