2-1 up! Kyerematen

Ball is won back in the box, gets played to lankshear, spots Kyerematen running behind, backheels it to Rio who smashes it home.

The U18 team looks decent. Chelsea's goal was very much against the run of play, we could've/should've been 2 up by that point.

Only watched the final five minutes of the first half but by the sound sof things, and stats-wise, we deserve to be winning.

Sounds like their goal came against the run of play as we had chances before that but just didn't take them, but thankfully took two chances late in the half to take the lead.

Flashscores saying Olusesi got the assist for Kyerematen. That's definitely not the case. Not sure how you can confuse Lankshear and Olusesi...

Thankfully the commentary is okay, seems like they've gotten rid of the two dickwads who used to do it.

2-2. Do t know who it was but one of our defenders just standing looking at a loose ball and the Chelsea player nipped in and scored.

FT 2-2. Complete brain switch off from whoever it was, he was just standing looking at the ball and not clearing it.

2-2 isnt an awful result away to Chelsea but was so close to a win so it's a bit sickening.

The really annoying thing about conceding that goal is our game management. There was hardly any time left yet we were wide open on the counter attack.

With a minute or so to go, we should have had a compact shape with just a few players raiding Chelsea on the last attack we had.

Yeah and hopefully he learns from that and gets better. All part of the parcel of youth football.

What I liked was how we controlled the midfield and looked very assured and calm when building passed the press. Chelsea looked very ordinary but you could tell that they have some technical players.

To be honest, why? The result doesn't really matter it's not the purpose here. I don't really think 18 year olds should be learning game management I think that can come later. I don't find it annoying personally because the result is completely immaterial to me. What I saw was a very well rounded intelligent players who play with their head up, while maybe lacking the star dust of earlier years.

I don’t know. I think there is such a thing as learning how to win - and it starts at a young age. U18s seems like the right place to start teaching game management.

I agree that “winning”’is not the primary goal of development at that age, but I do think it should have some part of the development.

Maybe. I think it should come later personally, at that time you are still learning the systems basic tactical movements and instructions. That can be learning to sit deep sure, but if you are just trying to hold on to results every game you're 1-0 up that's a lot of time spent on a particular function.

Interestingly Dorrington and Williams as well as Kyerematen and to a lesser degree Abbott (he just seems the type of player who tend to succeed in the professional game) are ones I was most impressed with today and after one appearance feel most likely to make it. Though obviously one appearance is a tiny sample size and frankly not a good way to base anything off.

For me Lankshear looked a unit but my worry is if he would be able to translate that into the adult game. Moore looked talented but was also very wasteful and seems to come in and out of the game (turns out he's 15? Very impressive then but a long way to go!). Williams impressed me more because he was always a willing receiver and would move the ball on decisively, a few good runs and a few good passes.

Dorrington was the stand out for me. Very assertive and also very good with the ball too.

Personally none of the players however gave me any indication that they are likely to get close the first team. Instead it looks like we have a lot of players who 'could' do so but are not likely to.

Chris Perkins, hired about a year ago as a specific youth talent acquirer (or something) is leaving and going to arsenal

Yet another indication that our youth system, and everything round it, is fucked.

It’s so bad now, not sure what the route cause of the issue is

I might well be wrong but I don't think youngsters see a way through into the first team.
