Always felt this would be the key issue here. Even if he told Conte he wanted to come, his whole family are probably Inter fans and putting doubts in his mind. I can't imagine he was instantly like "Yes! To Tottenham I go!". A huge decision like this is bound to be difficult for him.

Someone did a long post in here about the culture changing and more young Italians wanting to leave Italy but I just don't see it. The vast majority of Italian players do still stay at home and the only young Italian that's come to the Prem in recent years was Moise Kean and he fucking hated it and went straight back. If you're a young rich Italian footballer playing for your boyhood club, why would you be in a rush to leave?

I think our best bet is that Inter get desperate and push him out to get the fee. At the moment we're negotiating, but are they actively telling Bastoni "you need to go"? Doesn't feel like we're at that stage yet, though I could be well off the mark.
There would have been due diligence on whether Bastoni himself would be open to moving though so can't imagine this isn't insurmountable but equally, you are dealing with human beings who quite clearly can have a change of heart.

The one constant is that Inter meanwhile definitely need to raise funds through sales - this isn't an instance of Inter digging their heels in and rebuffing our advances.

Also as we've been told repeatedly, Paratici has lined up multiple targets so if we do ultimately feel this isn't going in our favour and/or we are wasting time then i'd expect us to move on sharply - none of this will he/won't he culminating in a final week of the transfer window scenario.

So Inter now don't want him to leave? I thought they had to sell.....

Wonder if the reason could be like someone suggested a couple days ago thar a swap deal from Chelsea and Inter for Martinez & Lukaku with a sweetner. Just surmising. Probably 2+2 = 5.

I would start panic only if Romano or Di Marzio reports that

no need to panic. am confident even if it doesn't happen that we'll be fine. I think the days of putting all our eggs in one basket and ending up with sub-par make-do replacements are over.

Yeah, I think that's one of the blessings of Paratici's methods and Conte's demand to have important players before pre-season.

If we don't get Bastoni over the line in the next week or two, I doubt it will happen at all and we'll move on to other targets. Much less painful than a Levy-special 3 month long transfer saga.

So from personal agreement with Conte to doubts and inter playing silly buggers!!??

I hope it’s all posturing and just a show of strength from Inter so they didn’t look weak after eventually selling. Players like this are a dime a dozen and we have to get it done as there’s blood in the water and the other sharks will circle. There’s no point in FP & AC doing all the work - for ManU or Chelsea to then swoop in last min with 3 times the salary and more money to Inter.

Nervous.

I'm probably going to repeat this 5000 times over the summer but we need to be aware that journalists even if they are good people all do the toxic practice of taking advantage of people's anxiety because it will make you read this article and their next one.

Yes sometimes bad news is just bad news but you can discern them giving you the truth I think by whether they write in a way that is asking you to stay tuned. Anxiety comes from a perceived threat and typically we resolve that fear from gaining clarity through information so they basically put a bit of fear out as bait because they know people will need the information to reduce their anxiety and then they typically add a sentence which keeps your anxiety on it's toes so you're now sitting there refreshing desperate for the next bit of info.

As I say I don't think a lot of these Journo's are bad people at heart but I don't think they fully appreciate what this practice does to people's brains, it's a disgusting practice to be honest. If you contrast it with the way Trix gives info, he tells you to be prepared for some potential threats, that's to minimise the potential of your anxiety going crazy.

You'd think getting Lukaku would soften the blow on Lautaro, especially if it kept them Bastoni too.
It might a bit but I think Inter would want the pair upfront again, thats the ideal. The Lukaku deal is going to be very hard for them to pull off. It will have to be loan with eventual obligation and he would have to massively cut his wages, which apparently he’s happy to do. It will be interesting tho, one of Bastoni, Lautaro, Skriniar or Barella will have to be sold. really I think it will be out of the first two.

Inter might be holding back because Conte has entered the race on Bremer the Brazilian.

Yeah hard to see how they can possibly sanction a Lukaku deal, even with the massive wage-cut, without letting Lautaro go...which kind of defeats the entire point.

Tbh it may not even be our end? We could literally have very thing sorted and by leaking a story about Bastoni it might put pressure on Torino regarding Bremer.
Nobody knows unless you are in on negotiations.
Another thought if Conte has called him as we are led to believe, no chance we go full out for him without encouragement his end.

I haven't heard any different as yet regarding his stance and as I posted he's told Conte personally he would come.

As for Inter they up the price every time once you are close. We've seen it before and I posted as much a few days ago, so that part wouldn't surprise me one bit.
Sounds like doing business with Inter is worth too much trouble. We might as well move onto the next best option.

I wouldn't worry too much about any lukaku potential deal.... Lukaku played for Conte, just happened to be at Inter...

They will def try, by all accounts they stopped negotiations with Dybala to try and get Lukaku. which works for me because I still want Dybala here. But your spot on, the only way it happens is if they get rid of Lautaro or Bastoni. Even then the same remit applies as it did for Dybala, they have to get rid of Sanchez and Vidal as their contracts are too big.

Inter are stuck tbh, on the one hand they will want to draw this out and promote a bidding war for whoever they sell, on the other hand they need to sell quick because they can’t buy without selling. Even if they offload some bit part players. I wouldn’t get too concerned yet about this Bastoni deal, it can’t run on all summer.

My only worry atm is who else might start sniffing because Bastoni is that good. For example if Chelsea start lurking and offer them a favourable loan on Lukaku as part of the deal it might get Inter thinking. This is where I think Conte will be our ace up the sleeve because as I mentioned in the ITK thread, Bastoni wont really want to leave Inter and is very much being pushed out. If he’s going to leave I can see him most keen to go and work with the manager he values and credits with his development.

Inter fans are furious about this one since it seems very likely to happen. Their Chinese owners want money back so they have to keep selling off their assets and the fans consider Bastoni and Barella their untouchable ones.
Should bid for him too
