Wonder to what extent Abramovich was keeping them afloat operationally? Don't think they'll do a Leeds but no new contracts or transfers will hurt them a lot. Probably will become a mid table side.

If i'm Conte i'm making Kante a top target with a year left on his contract.
They can't sell players...

Amazing news.

I have two fears though.

1. They remove the sanction after a few months and Abramovich goes back to normal running them.

2. The Government make special dispensation for the sale of the club and sell it for a low value which means Chelsea end up with another sugar daddy type.

I'm just fearing the worst here as they land on their feet a lot!

Your first point I wouldn't worry about because unfortunately the entire face of European politics has now shifted for likely the next few decades and Russia aren't coming back from this as long as Putin is in power.

Your second point - they will get another sugar daddy type because thats the only sort of person who could afford to spend several billion quid on a football club but you would like to think there would be much more scrutiny on them and where they got their money.

They can still give tickets away for free, so that doesn’t mean the stadium will be half empty and doesn’t mean no away fans. They just can’t sell them.

If they had any sense they would find away to not just give them away but raise money for them to give to charity.

2 questions......

What's the general mood like on Shed End?

Is anyone else putting talk sport on at 1pm to hear Andy Jacobs go into full meltdown?

Yes but the fit and proper person check is financial, not political. It's to stop people who can't afford it from ruining the clubs or asset stripping. If you went in depth on every owners past dealings as far as ethics and politics were concerned, most of them would fail the tests.
Fit and proper isn't just a wealth test. It hasn't been implemented properly, but they don't have to look into the hearts of potential owners. They just have to set reasonable criteria that acts as a base level of appropriate ownership criteria. Mysterious wealth from authoritarian countries doesn't seem too onerous a level to apply.

Fuck yeah, although I haven't listened for a couple of years, so what has his general opinion on it all been so far?

They can but as they are limited on what they can spend on security and catering etc, they may be better off not doing so.

Surely that's them done for then? Finished unless the government sells it within weeks?

Another option is that they come to agreements to release the majority of first team players or perhaps sell them all on free transfers because they won't get paid regardless and it keeps the club afloat for a few more months.

Oh haha. My whatsapp group with my mates is blowing up, half of them are Chelsea fans, so funny to see them crying about this. I said to them, look you've had twenty years of trophies due to dirty money so just take it for what it is and move on, some clubs never had the luck they had.

I bet there’s a few players asking their agents to try and get them out of their contract right now. Their loan army is going to be screwed if this goes on past this season for example.

Surely sponsors won’t want to be associated either?
