Bad week followed up by an efficient if slightly uninspiring performance. But looking at the positives, its three points away against a team who have taken points off teams we're challenging for top four. Next month will be a defining month for this season, historically the month when we fall away, forget about the LC Final, three premier league games, first away to Newcastle which we have to expect to win, after that home to Man Utd and away to Everton, two games which will define our season, need to get through April with at least 5 points, six be great, seven or nine be fantastic. But if we get through the month with 5 points we're set up for a run of five winnable games before a potential winner takes all last day clash away to Leicester.
Aren't we home to Newcastle?

Well in Tottenham. Villa without Grealish are pretty toothless but still 3 or 4 very good performances from our lot - second half in particular: Lucas, Tanganga, Hojbjerg, Kane. Sanchez and Rodon looked assured in the second half but against better teams that first 20 minutes would be punished.

According to Dean Smith, this is a foul on Targett from Tanganga in the build up to the second goal.

If anything, Targett is very lucky Tanganga hasn’t milked a stamp on his thigh.

He generally had to fight against 2 cbs with either overhit passes or long balls as Kane was deep for most of the game. Giroud is one of the best when it comes to holding the ball up so saying that if Vinnie can't hold it like him he can't lead the line is a bit unfair I feel. Vinnie has good hold-up play but he had very few outlets so had to hold the ball up for far too long at times.
That’s whats being a good target man is all about I am afraid, you have to be fighting with one or more CBs all the time and winning the fight physically, you will have to be able to bully the CBs but he doesn’t seem to be able to do that and loses the ball a lot of times today but then again that’s just my opinion, you are welcome to have yours

Tanganga, Rodon, Sanchez all played well. They are three good guys I feel.....but they need an experienced head out there. Would get eaten alive by a City or peak Pool.

Yep. They got in behind tanganga a few times. He was fine but I’m not going overboard on his performance. I’d rather see him in central defence.

I can’t really disagree with Jose’s post match comments. He is not without blame but he clearly knows what the issues are and he is right in what he said that attitude has to be right every game, not just as a reaction to a poor performance. Jury is still out as to whether he can pull it around.

Since Villa’s last game, we have had to play Arsenal & away to Zagreb. Add to that we had to play 120 minutes against Zagreb.

We also played with some young players who have had hardly many minutes playing in the PL, away to a team that is no pushover.

So getting a win and clean sheet today is even more remarkable against such odds.

Well done to the lads and to Jose for finally being bold enough to drop the underperforming players.

Shouldn't moan today but Sanchez regularly gets far too tight and worse he's been that way since we signed him which means he's either not learning, not listening or it's a habit he's not going to get rid of.

Ndombele who's been well off it for 4 or 5 games, it's clear to me he's being targeted by teams to kick the shit out of him early and he'll go into his shell for the rest of the game, he's getting zero protection from referees IMHO.

Sissoko was awful in defending those Villa chances once he came on, I don't mean in ability I mean in attitude; lazy attempts at blocking or tracking runners.

Tanganga was pretty solid all game (not sure I agree with José that he's a RB though, I know he's not the tallest but he has a Lucas esq leap on him to counter that)

No complaints with Rodon, although it looked to me that he was having to play on his wrong side and occasionally looked a bit awkward but they may be my ignorance at not knowing enough about him.

Lucas has had a run of games where he's actually affected things MOTM today.

José for the love of doG please settle on a settled spine for the last however many games we have left it's the best chance we have of redeeming anything from this season.
