Honest question. Theoretically, if this deal was proposed, would you all do it?

Eriksen + 25m to Juventus for Dybala
Eriksen leaves now for Juventus
Juventus agrees to not register Dybala for Champions League, therefore he'd be eligible in January to be registered for Spurs in Champions League
Dybala joins Spurs January 1st 2020.

Positives, we get Dybala in January and can use in in Champions League.
Negatives, we get neither for the first half of the season.

Verdict? I'd say 100% I'd do this. Thoughts?

The rules over being cup tied for European competitions were abolished last year.

Oh wow, I actually didn't know that they removed that rule. Even better then. May increase the chances of them doing it then in theory.

Some murmurings starting to appear about a potential January move. Hopefully everything falls into place and we keep working on this.

Wonder if, and this is hugely optimistic, we could potentially do this deal and announce it ahead of January? Juve get the funds needed and money off the books though a January fee would still balance the books ahead of FFP.
Where are the murmurings?

I don’t think there are. I’m frustrated as I don’t think we are speaking to them anymore and we should have tied it up weeks ago. As a manager with limited funds it is not that simple to just do a deal for someone to come in January.
Poch is happy with his squad but he does want Dybala. Spending money now will really tie you into something that you may not need! Theoretically say if Jan were to be suddenly injured long term and Toby definitely off; where do your priorities lie? If we’ve already allocated funds for Dybala we wouldn’t be able to able to buy a top class CB to replace them. If Lo Celso bags 10-15 goals before jan as an Am would levy sanction spending that much money if we have players performing already!

Lots of ifs and buts mate. If you can get someone of that quality in, you do it. Foyth, Dier, Sanchez, Tanganga, I believe would see us through just fine.

I don't think we'd make it an official transfer to happen on Jan 1st but the idea would be that we go for him all things being well in January. Eg. no problems with Dybala, or any injuries or weaknesses for us that might cause us to reprioritise, as well as of course Dybala remaining insistent on a move to us instead of other clubs. We can effectively do 99% of the work and then make it official in January if nothing causes a rethink by then.

If Dybala isn't available in the next two windows, and we're still looking for a "statement" signing, for me it has to be Ousmane Dembele.

The lines of communication don't go dead when the transfer window shuts to only open up again in January. Juve want Dybala out and Poch wants him in. There will be plenty going on behind the scenes to try to resolve the problems. It's different if both sides don't agree there's a deal to be done, but that isn't the case with Dybala.

I agree completely! And it's very unlikely that this will all happen, however as Spurs we always plan for the worse case scenario.

Of course I agree with you completely, but it seems as if we only come alive when the window opens!

I guess it's a pretty unique situation where both clubs have agreed a fee, the player has agreed personal terms, but the transfer doesn't get completed due to issues with a 4th party. I'm sure Spurs, Juve and Dybala would all still be happy for the move to go ahead if possible.

Given the image rights thing seems to be an issue only for PL clubs, doesn't that mean that the rights holders are only likely to receive a lump sum pay off if Dybala moves to a PL club? In which case it may also be their preference for him to come to us, making it more likely that we'd be able to find a solution before Juve try to push him elsewhere.

If Eriksen signs a new deal in the coming weeks I don't think we will return for him. If not maybe we sell Eriksen in Jan and go for Dybala after working on his image rights for a few months. Arsenal still got a good deal for Sanchez with 6 months on his contract.

I think even if Eriksen stays we should be adding attacking quality and letting another player go if needed to comply with the home grown quota

Apparently Sarri isn't going to register him in the CL squad... I think PSG will get him before the european window closes...
If they get Coutinho they won't need him plus they have FFP to comply with so can't spend without consequences anymore.

If he's still available I'm sure we'll be back in for him, at 9am on January 31st...

Same here. I'm still not keeping my hopes up because
A) Levy doesn't do a lot of buying in the January transfer window
B) He will probably be gone
C) It takes players normally half a season to mesh in with the Poche system

Our last signing before this window was in January if I remember...Moura came in and took the half season to adjust

He'll buy if he thinks there's value...there often isn't. But Dybala may present a similar opportunity

Would missing the group stages of the CL really mean that much to him? He wouldn't miss any knockout matches, they don't start until February.
