The Danish playmaker has been agitating for a move, but with Real Madrid’s interest on the wane and Manchester United a lesser proposition, the big question is: where would he go?

I think there's a big difference between wanting to go to Real Madrid and wanting to leave Tottenham.

Yep. The earliest reports (and i'm talking a couple of years ago or more) suggested Barca was where he really wanted to go one day. Then that became either of the 'Spanish Giants'. But i've never seen anything that suggested he was desperate to go anywhere else, it has always appeared like it was a choice of the two in Spain, or stay at Spurs - basically as simple as that.

If it was only more money then isn’t that what’s been on offer all season?

Exactly, but it's more inflammatory to imply that we only value Eriksen at 75k (significantly lower than many of our other players). I'm sure there's a very juicy contract sat on Levy's desk that he could have signed months ago but that doesn't stir any shit so they won't mention it.

The thing is, it has always kind of been stated that Eriksen is ambitious and has a clear career path / plan.

He made his name at Ajax and then saw us as a wise step up to next level with a view to then moving onto one of the massive clubs around the age he is now / stage of his career.

But looking from outside Barcelona don't seem interested and Madrid are kind of take him or leave him, unless he feels he can go there and change their minds.

But his free kicks and corners are still pretty crap for us and should be a lot, lot better than they are as he has shown he can do it, but doesn't seem to be stepping up. He also does seem quite laid back and although very influential for us he doesn't appear to be the grab the game by the balls kinda player that perhaps Madrid would expect - I mean look how they're treating Bale who has won them cup finals in the past!

Some may then reply he might go Man U otherwise for the money, but he doesn't strike me personally as that kind of player and to me seems more like he wants to win things (although perhaps he should have grabbed the Champions League final more by the nuts).

He just doesn't seem to have that mentality for a nutter club like Madrid - Barcelona I could seem him maybe fitting in although even then they have that Arthur chap and probably need more of a wide forward and centre forward rather than another creative midfielder. And they also seem to want to bin Countinho like an old toy they're bored after unsettling him from Liverpool with so they're not much better than Madrid.

From an unbiased point of view I think Spurs are maybe further forward now than Eriksen thought we would be when he was mapping his career out and find it odd he feels he needs a new challenge when we're moving into our first full season in one of the best stadiums in the world (certainly the best in English league aside from capacity being a little lower than Old Trafford) and having just bought in Ndombele to play behind him. And hopefully Lo Celso to provide some more options. And a full summers break for a lot of our international players, which hampered us greatly last season (even though we still got to CL final in spite of this).

Eriksen also needs to take a look at himself as for me he should be scoring and assisting far more from free kicks and corners if he wants to be considering one of the worlds best and good enough to go Madrid without them turning on him.

I'd say madrid are just stringing him along in case they miss out on Pogba. Keeping him unsettled which will be crap for us. I have a felling that if he doesn't go this season he'll go for free next year instead. Madrid obviously don't value him enough to push hard for him and are happy to wait 12 months. Sign him in January on a pre contract.

While i never felt a move away was more than 50/50 , purely due to the fact that neither Madrid or Barca seemed desperate to sign him, i always wanted him to stay and thought Poch would be desperate to keep him. However, the longer things go on i can't help wondering if the personnel changes and tactical shifts that Poch has obviously had to envisage for our team should Eriksen leave, are now becoming more attractive to him than the prospect of Eriksen actually staying ? In which case they'd be a bizarre situation of a player as good as Eriksen not wanted by any of the clubs he wants to play for !

The article is bullshit, He isnt after money or a payout.

I think he had always seen Spurs as a stepping stone and always had his eye on hitting 27/28 and making the next move up, and now he is just following through on this long planned trajectory.

The paradox for him of course is that we have kept pace, and maybe outstripped the ambitions he set 5 years ago, and with Barca/Madrid nonplussed the realistic next step up for Christian when he was planning his career 5 years ago (& looking at it from today's perspective) would have been a club just off the very top or very much on the ascendancy. To someone like, erm, Tottenham.

The reality is that we are probably exactly the best club for his level. He just isnt as good as he needs to be to push for a 'step up' to Galactico level.

"Even within a local context Eriksen is obviously underpaid, earning a reported £75,000 per week, which is less than nine other members of Mauricio Pochettino’s first team."

Well he'd double his money if he signed a new contract. It's because he hasn't signed one that he's on so little, so his own choice, not like he's undervalued by the club or anything.

I agree with @CowInAComa, I think Eriksen is perfectly suited to Spurs. There are only 9 bigger clubs than us in the world now, financially, and half of them are in England and, outside him running his contract down, not clubs we'd sell to. Which limits his options somewhat - not all that surprising that none of them consider him a step up on what they have.

Always thought he'd be more suited to Barca than Real, but neither seem to want him. Still think Real will happen in some way, even if he runs his contract down and begs to go.

Its a bit of an unrequited love situation with CE and Madrid... he fancies the pants of this girl but she is stringing him along whilst trying to seduce someone else...

My problem (if you can call it a problem) with Eriksen is, he is not quite as good as he and a lot of you think he is.

Anyone can have ambition with a clear path they want to follow, but a lot of times it just does not work out that way because of one thing or another.

I think Real Madrid know this and therefore he is not a priority for them as he is no better than Hazzard and say others like Ascenio who they have already have. Hence the indication of only a back up player in the squad.

In other words, his assessment of the player he think he is and their assessment of him are poles apart.

Eriksen wants Real but do they want him I am not sure they do.
In my younger days I wanted Bo Derek but for some reason it never came about.
My problem is that we could end up with a player that wanted out and the fans feel let down by his wanting out and not getting his wish and those same fans who have been OK with his hitting the first defender at almost every corner and him taking almost every free kick at Goal and only scoring once in three years will turn on him and we are left with damaged goods with not much sell on value.
He really is holding other transfers up because if he does move I'm sure our other targets will fall into place with his transfer cash available .
For me the whole thing stinks in fact he is stinking the place out and the quicker he moves the quicker the club can move on.
I await the abuse from the " Eriksen is one of the worlds best players " crew.and I know nothing about football.
The worlds best like Ronaldo/Hazard /Messi/ etc they step up when their team is in a crisis all I have ever seen from Eriksen in a crisis is him go missing in a crisis unless its against one of the lesser teams and then he is stellar.
These views have no correlation with him wanting out it is just something that I see as facts.

Well he's much better than Asensio for starters...

You dont mince you words do you! While I never rated him quite like some on here, but he did provide a vital role for us and I willed him (like all of our players) to do well every week.

What did it for me was the fact he doesnt want to play for us anymore and wants to move on. This indication that he only will consider Real Madrid (Before it was Barcelona) is him hedging his bets and using us as a last resort. If you are not 100% committed to us then you can go as far as I am concerned.

It makes me laugh when people are posting that they would be glad if he didnt get the move because he would stay. Its like still being happy to go out with a partner or spousel although you know she no longer fancies you but is only there for the convenience.

i rate eriksen highly but i will find it difficult to support him if he runs his contract down and does the club out of a significant fee.

Ah you feel like a jilted ex lover.

That's not what this is at all. It is work. It is business. He stays and signs a new contract he will contribute. Hazard did with chelsea. De gea did with utd. Hazard eventually left but was by far their best player last season.

Fair comments but I think you missed my point
