Just watched a YT compilation of him for the first time. From what I saw in the video, he seems to be solely a central midfielder and not someone who either joins in the attack or sits deep in the holding role. Tempering my expectations of the video highlights accordingly (i.e. not going to have a go for the video not being chock full of goals and assists etc), I thought he looked competent but not anything at all special, and I didn't see any particular facets to his game that made me wish he was a Spurs player.

I appreciate that he's unlikely to be a complete dud if he's playing games for Real Madrid, but from the little I have seen he just looks a bit Harry Winks-lite, and while it couldn't hurt to have another Winks in our squad, I'm not especially excited by the prospect of him signing.

I'm sure I'm probably being an idiot and missing some obvious talent that everyone else can see, but do any more informed posters than me have a sales pitch on him that might put me straight?

I think the 40 games thing is in relation to an interview he gave where he said he'd like to play 40 games next year and not just sit on the sidelines. I just saw the headline...never read it.

I doubt 40 would be agreed as a figure, more likely that he will be a regular first team player or that that is the intention.

This, the player says this is what he wants, he agrees to join Tottenham therefore manager must have gave player what he wanted. Just jumping to conclusions, no manager could gurantee that, especially in contractual terms.

I think this is complete bollocks. Similar to the Bruno Fernandes links. GLC is the one we want and JJ has pretty much said that consistently now.

Not sure about the game time demands but worth remembering the club's pay structure which is heavily weighted towards bonuses rather than massive basic salary in which case it may be he just wants reassurance on his wage.

I made this very brief 25 man squad.
I haven't put any different back up strikers or right backs as there hasn't been any specific strong links in the press to anyone.

The squad is with Eriksen going and a new creative strong in its depth midfield.

The links to Dani Olmo is nice but I think he can push Dele for his place or maybe even Son. But he definitely could help dele get back to his best

It was very brief, but I like this team.

What are everyone's thoughts?

I didnt know which player thread to post it in....Lo celso's, Ceballos' or Olmos

GLC is more an attacking mid than a CM from what I have seen.

Some journalists are saying that he needs to be central persona in the squad if not he's missing the match. Surely he wouldn't be the most important player for us with Ndombele, Lo Celso or Dele. Milan would be better fit for him

Much like Eriksen and GLC could play together incould also see Ceballos and GLC playing the same midfield.
I do think our targets and signings perhaps point towards a different formation.

Did you watch him at Spain U21, Betis or RM? Seems like at RM he has mostly played a deeper role keeping things ticking over. For Betis and Spain he was more of an AM, trying to beat a man and thread through balls.

I think for us he could be used in all positions in a 3 man midfield. Good versatility. I could see Lo Celso being used in a CM3 or further forward. I think they'd round off our creativity options nicely assuming Eriksen leaves.

If this is true then I can only think we’re going to move forward with two dynamic mobile pressers and ditch the dedicated DM options.

So we would have

Sissoko/NDombeke + Winks/Cellabos

For the deep midfield positions and

Eriksen or Alli/Lo Celso as the 10 just ahead.

Playing for DZ and youth level internationals. Ceballos and GLC have a bit more on the CV.
That's true but looking at Dani Olmo he has really great attributes, fluidity dribbling, passing and shooting

I could see us lining up in a 4-2-3-1 with an energetic double pivot or perhaps a 4-3-1-2 with 2 flanking CMs. It definitely seems like Poch is still favouring the use of a 10.

Not entirely sure we'd be 100% suited to 4-3-3 without a traditional holding player, although Winks could probably do it.

 Cmon hughy mate it's just his opinion.

I find it helps to put 'In my opinion' or 'IMO' if you're a lazy git - otherwise it sounds like you're stating your opinion as a fact when it can quite obviously be complete bollocks.
