Except that each time we bring in players that late on there are ALWAYS excuses raised about the player in question not having had a proper preseason.

That old chestnut!
The general competence of a footballer is not affected by coming in a month early and he should be quite competent enough to adjust within a further month of training\playing after his arrival.
It may affect that final few percent of performance but at RB that's not the concern.

The biggest issue is adjusting to a new league as the Prem is more physical/demanding. But that will only improve through games not training matches and friendlies.

I don't doubt a coach would rather have them in earlier but it's for the very small margins, not for being caught out of position, diving in to give away penalties, or not being able to take a throw in.

This isn’t happening, he will be too expensive for us and not a priority position, the money will go to a 10&8 then we may get a RB later in window if we sell trippier for example.

Is there any particular reason this thread keeps getting bumped?

There’s been no news on him and it’s pretty obvious we’re not going to present Palace with a figure capable of opening some sort of serious discussion with them.

I guess it’s boredom induced by the empty hole that is Spurs transfer activity these days?
Don’t worry, I’m sure the Ndombele thread will go even more batshit in the next few days and this will all be forgotten about. Especially when he signs to Utd for 70 million

For £50m they can have him tbh.

I know it's not my money but I would be annoyed if we spent that much money on someone who's had one reasonable season for Palace and has zero senior England caps, especially when someone like Max Aarons could plausibly be gotten for less than half that price.

Palace can smell United's desperation and have exploited it. Fair play to them.

to be fair, thats a great signing for Man Utd.

i don’t think we were ever in a position to spend that on a RB given that we look like we’re overhauling our midfield.

I’m sure there’s other options out there for us.

I hope we've let this one pass us by because we have other options in mind rather than not wanting to spend that kind of money before generating funds from selling Aurier or Trippier...

I lean towards thinking it is the latter...

I'd give Aurier and KWP a shot this season and try for Max Aarons next season, personally.

Agree, paying top money for potential, absolute madness, and though he looks decent defensively, he hardly gets forward to command 50m

Am I the only one a tad disappointed that at the 50m price tag and the 80k per week wages that United are quoted, we didn't try for this one? Yeah I know midfield is our priority position, but RB is not that far off. AWB is PL proven, something that you can't guarantee with people like Atal or Aaron.

Oh come on. City are rumoured to be signing Joao Cancelo from Juventus for £44m.

In a world where Cancelo is £44m, Wan-Bissaka is not £50m.

Remember AWB comes with a £20m "PL-proven English youngster" add-on.

£50m and only £80kpw looks a bloody good deal to me. Annoyed we didn't get involved.

If that’s really the price it’s a huge mistake by us. Have that position locked down with the best RB in the league for the next 5-10 years. HG at that. I really don’t get it. It’s tripper plus 25M. Should have been an absolute no brainer.

We’re going to pay 60-70% of that price for a vastly inferior product.

Why? Cancelo isn’t actually a good fullback. A decent winger, but not a fullback.
