My bad, I read the post as sell him to a league one club after a loan, which I was like aint no club going to sign him for a million in that league

That doesn't make him good. Poch clearly favours a type of player and that's one that does have a high workmate as opposed to being more technically or mentally gifted

Mentally gifted?

I think some people are being harsh on Poch, he's been with us 5 seasons and I challenge anybody to name a player we've released that we regret.

Edwards and Onomah are two talented lads that clearly don't have the right attitude for top level football. We're not talking Carroll, Livermore and Mason anymore, its a different degree of expectation.

Tbh there’s been numerous players over the years that have played at the very highest level making a career out of just being a combative player in CM. Kante a sort of modern 2019 version of a billy bremner. But essentially they are the same type of player. Maybe Pochettino thinks Marsh can do that job, always found it a bit odd he played a lot at CB considering his height. Maybe he will be a Mascherano lol.

Being mentally and physically tough
with only adequate skills
and a touch of versatility
hasn't harmed England International
Eric Dier's career.

Rhino you know I love you mate but I just can’t see how he can be that bad. He’s been training with the seniors for months. Pochettino hasn’t been shy in ditching youth players he hasn’t thought good enough so he must see something.

No one puts the cones out quicker by all accounts.

How many times have you seen Marsh play?
I'm not saying you are wrong
just that you have made
a dismissive call very early.
I hope his Mum doesn't read SC.

The difference between us is
that I like to be proved right
and you like to be proved wrong.

I always give young players
a bit of space to grow and develop
to find their position and mature.

if they're our own
I give them the Lake District,
The Scottish Highlands
and the Gobi desert.

I'm banking your comment
hopefully to ridicule you later.

Marsh is only a year younger than Onomah. Poch kept Onomah around the first team for almost 2.5 years and played him over 30 times when he was 17-20.

It's weird how people Poch trusting Onomah is swept under the carpet and he's pigeonholed as a no hoper with a terrible attitude.

They're adjustable for height surely.

I'd be lying if I said
live more than twice
But he's 20 and on the fringes
of the Spurs squad
with a reputation for toughness
versatility and of captain material.

I know a player
who's being prematurely
written off completely
when I see one.

There are still people
dining on their underpants
and hats
for writing off HK
in the same way.

The only point of comparison
I'm prepared to make
at this time.

i saw someone in the transfers forum say skipp will never be as good as winks which did make me laugh so i get what you're saying but you have to draw the line somewhere, just being young isn't a reason to keep every player on. having watched marsh for the past 3 or 4 years i just don't see how a player who is athletically mismatched even at that level and with little about him on the ball is suddenly going to do a 180 and become spurs quality, or anywhere near. people will rightly say well poch likes him and that's all that matters but i think history will show that poch has liked a lot of youth players, that is until he gets bored of them and moves onto the next one.

Didn't realise Seamus Heaney was on SC. I bet his mum is over the moon and super proud and I'm happy for her. Doubt she gives a shit what I say as long as George sorts out the mortgage and family trip to Vilamoura.

don't know if i'd go that far but if he makes a career for himself in league 2 then he will have done well imo. giving him a new contract doesn't bother me but at the same time i don't really get what we're playing at, just seems that as long as you're a grafter then with poch you've already got one foot in the door regardless of ability.
I don't know much about our youth prospects, but I get the impression that honest toilers are what Poch wants, with mercurial talent being wasted, such as with Edwards and Onomah. Also KWP, who surely has far more potential than Aurier.

Always follow your youth appraisals
you speak with knowledge.
BUT
very disappointed with the tone of this.
Very dismissive ( that word again)
and insulting to the players and Mauricio.)

Another way of putting this
is that he gives each player he selects
every opportunity to prove themselves
until is clear they are not going
to make the grade and then
in fairness to them and the squad
he regretfully lets them go
and moves on to the next scholar of promise.

Clearly not every Academy product
is going to make the squad
well not until squads are 2/3 hundred strong
and teams expanded to 50 a side.

It's not just the fact that they are young,
as you know players develop differently
It's giving them the time, space and coaching
to show what they can do.

And importantly to me and their Mums
not writing them off prematurely.

I'm sure Mauricio hasn't time to waste
and the fact that he sticks with
KWP, Skipp and Marsh for example
must show they have something to contribute
other than keeping old softies like me happy.

https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/so...aution-over-prodigious-troy-parrott-1.3923248

“We have to be careful with Troy Parrott,” said Ireland’s assistant manager at an event in Crumlin Children’s Hospital to make the fact that the first of the Euro2020 games to be staged in Dublin is now only a year away. “A couple of us here have to be careful not to pigeonhole him with being the next me and all of that. He’s him. He’s Troy Parrott so we have to let him develop as a young player.
“Has he got ability? Absolutely.

I speak to (Mauricio) Pochettino all the time and he loves him. Jésus (Perez) the assistant manager loves him. He definitely has potential but then he. . .what? 17. . just turned 17; I know I got thrown in at 17 but he’s still young and he’s had a lot of attention.

Thing is we only see 5% tops of what is really happening with youth players, and then judge it on that. Youth games mean very little. Some people look like stars but can't translate it to a higher level, some look average but suit the adult game better.

I will repeat those who make it rarely are the most talented, and good fundamentals is more important to make it then talent. You can make a career out of fundamentals, you can't out of talent.

If Poch values Marsh its because he sees something we don't when he trains with the big boys. What happens the levels bellow is largely irrelevant. Youth football is about providing a platform to learn and thats all. What's important is how players engage with it and react from it not what marks out of ten some amateur gives them.

If youth players are making mistakes in youth games they are doing it in the right place, they can learn from it and they will make mistakes. If they can recognize them and learn from them the sky is the limit, if they can't even tell they've made one it they will struggle.

Also some of the crazy, seemingly personal hate, driven towards Marsh makes me feel sick. I'm not normally one to really have favorite players, or for that matter least favorite ones. But I've never wanted a player to succeed more than Marsh because of the reaction against him. He is my current favorite player, and I've only watched him play a pretty decent 20 mins against Tranmere!

what % do you see with senior players? i don't really see much of a difference, you watch the players on the pitch and form an opinion based off that. senior players have more exposure so you get a better feel for their character but otherwise it's largely the same? also i think this idea about the most talented ones rarely making it is a bit of a misnomer, i can assure you that the more talented ones make it at a much higher rate than those less talented, it's only because you hear about more about the former that it becomes easier to cite examples of a player not reaching their potential. maybe i haven't been following youth football long enough yet but i can't think of many bang average youth players making much of a mark on the senior game.
