i have no idea how you could fit Kane, Son, Dele, Eriksen, Lo Celso and Ndombele in a starting line up.

Little bit small time thinking in this post.

What if one of them is injured long-term?

Or out of form and one of the other players come in and perform a lot better?

You can't just say we have these eleven players where are we going to fit this one is as there's been plenty of times this season where we've been short in departments where we needed more options.

And unfortunately with the going market you do need to spunk bare dosh on players that could or could not end up as back-up / squad options.

Also see example when we bought Bentley how much it galvanised Lennon because he knew there was a threat to his place and upped his game - was like a new signing in itself.

We are looking at trying to have a squad that can win the top honours.

-------------------- Lloris ---------------------
- Aurier -- Toby ---- Verts ---- Rose --
-------------- Ndombele -------------------
---- Lo Celso -------------- Eriksen ------
--- Son --------- Kane ------------- Alli ---

Realistically that front 5 would interchange so much a starting formation would be pretty trivial on paper.

Is Ndombele not wasted in that nom.6 role? Harsh to drop Winks given how vital he is to how we play.

City have De Bruyne, Jesus, Bernardo, Silva, Aguero, Foden, Sane and Sterling jostling for 5 slots. Yet they have no issues fitting them in.

You need healthy competition and rotation option nowadays to win.

Stick players on the bench? City Liverpool have it every week why can’t we? IF they’re all fit then competition for places. Play plenty of competitions so everyone will get game time

This is all hypothetical - I really can't see this happening, but you'd rotate and pick the right players for the right situations.

- Sissoko, Winks, Ndombele could all play a deeper role if required
- that group, plus Lo Celso, Eriksen and Dele could all play in a more forward thinking CM role, and those three mentioned could all play attacking mid too, or at 10...and Kane could play 10 at a push
- Son, Moura, Kane represent the main attacking options, with Alli able to play as one of three too

Frankly I'm sure there's plenty I've missed from that. But the reality would be incredible tactical flexibility, genuine bench strength, depth to guard against injury etc. etc.

It's what the best teams in the world have had forever, we just never have. It would move us from a very good team to a genuinely brilliant squad and would enable us to challenge on multiple fronts.

Personally I think it's very unlikely because of the massive financial outlay required, but it would be bloody exciting

We shouldn't worry about fitting them in. Good teams have competition for places. Poch and us should be thinking wow who do I pick this week?! This will get us more consistently positive results with good performances.

Lo Celso is a MUST this summer (as is Ndombele IF we can get him) even if we keep Eriksen. I'd get Lamela out of the door personally to generate £15 mill or so and replace him with Lo Celso who is younger, fitter, better and has more positional flexibility.

We’re buying 50mil+ rotational pieces now?

Sanchez isn't a guaranteed starter every week and he's our record signing. Having rotation doesn't mean certain players are going to be stuck on the bench most weeks, it means we'll actually have strength past the 11 on the pitch so we won't have to rely on the same "best players" every game.

Lloris

Atal Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose

Winks Ndombele

Lo Celso Eriksen Dele

Kane

Subs:

Gazzaniga
Trippier/Aurier
Sanchez/ Foyth
Dier/ Diawara
Sissoko
Lucas
Son

Being a squad game I definitely think we'd be able to find space for the players you've highlighted if we wish to push on. The likes of Dele, Winks, our full backs etc would have to play well otherwise they'd be someone of equal quality ready to step in. Sign Lo Celso and watch the kind of Dele we get moving forward should Eriksen stay. The kid loves to prove a point.
This would arguably be one of the best Spurs teams we'd ever see.

I think we need to stop assuming as an example we need a proper defensive midfielder next to ndombele because he looks more like a box to box, I feel like we as fans tend to pigeon hole these players into set positions, he's 22 and maybe Poch has looked at him and said, I can get him in this part of my system and he has a whole load of extra qualities to boot. Lo Celso is the same he has great defensive stats, it's not out of this world to assume that between them they can cover the defensive responsibilities a midfield has.

If we want to rub shoulders regularly with the other big clubs, then we need to make changes from our previous MO.

Money earned from regular appearances in the CL will help defray the extra costs and a stronger squad will give us better chances of qualifying for the CL each season.

I'd argue that depth is the main reason City managed to retain the title. Between February and the end of the season they won every game in all competitions except the 1-0 away to us. The only way to be successful in multiple competitions without burning out the squad is to have quality players to rotate for different games. Liverpool didn't have that to the same extent and I think that hurt them for a period in the league.

nah. Sissoko and Winks, with Dier to shore up/play domestic cups, should be enough.

Without derailing this thread too much I actually happen to think Dier is 'fans favourite' that JJ alluded to being sold.

So that could potentially leave us with Winks, Sissoko, NDombele, Lo Celso and possibly Wanyama. I get the feeling Poch is heading to a 'Regista' (Winks) and box-to-box (NDombele/Sissoko) preferred midfield two rather than having an outright sitter like Dier/Wanyama. I could be wrong.

I agree, if City hadn't had the depth I don't think they'd have won the title.

It allowed them to keep going, not only that but it provided a sense of 'produce or your out of the team'.

And Poch has always said, you don't sign for Tottenham to play, you sign to train. Train well, then you play.
Sissoko is an example as apparently, he's always been great in training, which is why Poch persisted with him.

We can actually afford to rest injured players, or those coming back from injuries rather than having our hand forced.

I would love to know how likely we are to sign Lo Celso and where we are in the pecking order.

Hopefully we’re prepared to offer the necessary money.

His profile seems to be going up by the day(or maybe that’s just the excitement in this thread!)

Having not follow La Liga as much this year and therefore very little about him A few weeks ago I’ve gone to, he’s a must sign and would be hugely disappointed if we miss him.
