It seems Bale's motivation is clear and obvious, money. It's all about the money with him now, so with that, I'm out and Levy/Poch will hopefully feel the same. Let's drop this Bale dream once and for all, we don't need him now!

Money and golf.

Yes, to you a fan. But there are clubs that are more attractive than us which may attract the players we are attracted to.

We're getting pretty close though and the one thing we have an advantage in is the amount of pitch time the players we're chasing can expect.

this, 100%. Couldn't of said it better myself, we want to be a big club. its time to start acting like one.
You see the thing is, we might think of ourselves as a big club, but that doesn’t mean players share that view. It’s not as simple as putting mega-bucks in front of a club and then giving the player everything they want. We’re not built like that. We’re not Man City or PSG who only have to really clear the obstacle of identifying the player they want and then going and getting them.

Levy runs the club sustainably. OK, so we’ve made some money the last few years. That doesn’t mean we’ll be coining it permanently. We don’t have bottomless pits of cash for us to throw about. I have faith that under Levy’s stewardship, the club will always be financially sound. And that’s as it should be. I don’t want us to do a Leeds. I don’t want us to do a Sanchez to Man U.

Nor are we at the very top of the food chain when it comes to prestige or fame. We aren’t the biggest draw in world football (yet).

We’re in probably the most difficult position a club can be in when it comes to transfers: too big to want to draw talent from the middle and bottom tier of footballers but at the same time not big enough (yet) to be able to go toe-to-toe with the oil-slavers and the giants for the top tier. We can’t go direct, we have to manoeuvre our way through the market.

That’s why the Bale situation (if it exists) is still very febrile. Man U may be able to offer a player £500k a week, but we can’t (even if we wanted to). Real may be able to spunk £200m revamping their squad, but we can’t (not regularly anyway).

We are a big club, but we aren’t among the biggest clubs... yet. That reality has to factor into any analysis of how we operate in the transfer market. That’s what I see when I read @Trix ’s ITK - a club being street-wise. That’s what I see in the snippet from Hertyid - a club knowing where it stands in the footballing world and acting accordingly.

You can not blame him. How should he survive and care for his family with 200k a week? ...For kicking a ball and running around...

(...) Levy can't hold a gun to a player's head and force them to sign for us (much as we might all crave that!) :)

I have no doubt that Levy is doing all he can to bring in fresh players, ones that can help us build on the foundation we've set in place with the new facilities and the serendipity of our increased prestige around the world. But, there will always be limits to what we can and can't achieve. That makes the next couple of weeks important, but there will always be the risk of failure.

Levy would never hold the gun himself - he´s got people for those sort of things.

I hear what you're saying but I'm not sure I agree that it's quite that black and white.

Most footballers are motivated to make as much money as they can because their careers are short. They have to maximise their earning potential. Real Madrid chose to give him a huge contract and I think his view is probably that if he's sold he would be very unlikely, at this stage in his career, to get a contract paying that much. In his view he wants to see out that deal or make RM honour it to the end so that he gets what they agreed to pay him.

If he could guarantee to leave RM on a permanent deal and get the same wage or even more then it's likely no issue but it's just not going to happen. I say more fool Real Madrid for putting him on such astronomical wages. They made their bed, they now have to sleep in it.

To suggest we don't need him is lunacy. He's still one of the best players in world football and instantly gives us a match winner. I simply cannot understand why any of our fans would not want him on a loan deal.

No reason why Bale should let RM off the hook. They've treated him like shit after giving him a ludicrous contract and there's no reason for him to give them a free pass. However, if he had an ounce of decency he'd come back to us and play for nothing (;)).

Levy & Co knew that Bale would be a worldie at Madrid, yet still insisted on a buy back clause before selling him on. They surely knew he wasn’t going to cost peanuts if this happened. Maybe Levy started a Bale fund when he was sold, and he puts in a tenner every so often, so when the time comes we’ve got at least another £150 to help us out.

Personally I don’t think it’ll happen but if Madrid do pay half his wages and a small loan fee is agreed then it’s entirely possible.

It's so refreshing to see the same people posting the same onions about Bale as they did the last time there was ITK about him. It's a real tonic on a gloomy day. I can only hope posting the same things over and over again are equally as stimulating for your good selves.

I also hope you've been clever enough to have a file marked 'Bale' in which you thoughts are written so that you just have to copy and paste it rather than go through the tedious business of writing it all down time after time.

Bunch of wazzocks.

I think there’s also the possibility that he’s digging his heels in because of the way that Real have gone about trying to get him out of the club.

It would be one thing if Zidane had sat him down and said, ‘Sorry, Gareth, but I’m afraid you’re not in my plans. Let’s see if we can find you somewhere that’ll be a good fit for you’ but he’s not done that. Real have acted like utter scum in their treatment of him (pretty much confirming my view of them as a pus-filled carbuncle on the backside of football). They want to buck their responsibilities and Bale may be responding to their active aggression with passive aggression.

‘Oh look,’ he may think, ‘another lovely character assassination in Marca. Isn’t that nice? I wonder who could have got them to run that story?

‘Well, let’s not worry about that for now. I think I should have a rummage through this filing cabinet I have in my house. What’s this interesting-looking piece of paper? Well, would you look at that - it’s a contract paying me 650k a week for the next three years!

‘Now, I wonder if I should just set this aside and do those marvellous people at the Bernabeu a favour? They’ve really been fair and aboveboard, haven’t they? They’ve fully acknowledged and appreciated my role in winning them four CL trophies, especially that Zidoon fellow - he’s a delight. I should thank them.

‘I know - I’ll make sure I honour my contract. That’s what every football club wants, isn’t it? To know that the player they signed will remain for the length of their contract? And I’ll even let them decide how they want to utilise my skills - on the pitch, on the bench for the U23s or on the beach. But not playing golf - I hate golf.’

Of course, all speculation and conjecture. But I know that, in his situation, I’d do precisely that. I’d feel under no obligation to do Real any favours. If that’s his attitude, I wouldn’t blame him one jot.

CE! The reports coming out about considering a new 4 year contract with us is true. It is all about the minefield of clauses. It will not deter our quest to bring in two midfielders, which is well documented. Danny Rose wants a new contract. It is all about what he expects, and what we would possibly offer. No buyers at present for VJ, and GK.

Christian Eriksen staying and complimenting or midfield base with Ndombele would be a hugely positive start to the window.
