I would be gutted to lose JV and I think it’d be a big mistake

I say this with no evidence whatsoever but...

He’s core to the culture I reckon. A true professional who also mixes in some passion and personality. And he’s quality. Keep under all circumstances

I agree but personally I see this more as a replacement for when Jan leaves, there's no way we'd bring in a player and put them straight into our back 2 from the get go unless we had to sure to injury.

For me Ake would be the long term CB to partner Sanchez replacing Jan and Toby respectively. Having 4 CBs of decent quality on our books at the same time makes sense, having 2 for each side of the CB pair makes even more sense and this is what we'd have if Toby leaves this window and Ake joins.

I am not at all a fan of him as a player and I think it would be a big mistake to sign him.

If we are going to sign a CB, I want a commanding presence in the VVD mould and I don’t see that in Ake.

I live in Bournemouth and I have several mates with season tickets who watch him every week for the whole game, not just MOTD highlights and I know they are biased but they wouldn't sell him at any price.

I think he's a great talent, it was outrageous that Chelsea dragged him back (when he was on loan at Bournemouth) and then let him sit on their bench. Bournemouth really missed him then.

Just checked with an ex uni friend who lives down there and has a season ticket, and I qoute "great player for Bournemouth but no way does he start in any top 6 team, has no outstanding attributes (dominance in air, pace, reading of game) just a good all rounder!"

Sanchez and Verts seem the main choices. I think Dier is seen by Poch as versatile so would want him to be one he can put in anywhere. Foyth is the interesting one as he looks like a top player in the making but maybe like Dier Poch sees him as able to do a lot of jobs. Not sure about Ake though do like him. Maybe we can’t get our top choices so Poch sees someone he can mould

I saw quite a lot of him last season and I’d go along with that assessment 100%.

I agree. I’m really surprised so many people seem to rate him.

It's because he scores a decent amount of goals for a CB. Being on the scoresheet boosts your name recognition and general sense of being a top player.

That must be it because he sure as hell cant concentrate on defending for a whole 90 minutes.

I think its more likely that people just have different opinions to each other. I hardly doubt his HUGGGE 4 goals is influencing opinion too much.

Yeah I should have said (sorry if that post sounded snide) it could also be that they have watched him play and evaluated him as being a very good CB etc.

Having only watched him 7 or 8 times, I am not convinced Ake is good enough. Technically with the ball at his feet I was surprised how poor he was against Spurs this season, especially when he moved into midfield in the last game. He is good in the air but no VVD. Poch knows how to spot a CB so in him we trust, but we will miss the technique of Toby and Jan in a couple of years (maybe sooner ?) and as good as Sanchez is, he is pretty sh@# on the ball and I am not sure Foyth is the answer either. So this is a position decision that is really key for Spurs in the next year or so!

I remember we were linked before and Bournemouth were playing United that weekend so I tuned in and he had a great game but they lost I think 2-1 in the end and they conceded last minute where the cross just went over his head and for me I'm always going to have that question of him when it comes to crosses and corners, will we be at a disadvantage due to his height.

Would rather play Kane at CB than Ake. He really is an overrated baller just because he once played for Chelsea.

He's not that bad.I mean he'd be coming in to be third or fourth choice.

Having said that even if Toby goes I don't see CB as a priority. I guess largely because I see Dier as going back into CB next season, while Foyth and Sanchez are real real talents. So if toby goes next season it'll be.

Verts, Sanchez, Dier, Foyth and Davies as our five options (the latter in an emergency ofc)
