Hmmm ...

Thought he had some kind of first refusal or buy back clause in his contract for Chelsea anyway, if that were the case I doubt we'd get a sniff as they wouldn't let us.

Also hmmm ...

Even if Chelsea did or could exercise a buy back clause during their appeal or ban, surely the player would still need to to agree a contract with Chelsea?

Don’t know if it’s been said but apparently he qualifies as homegrown

Good player but personally I don't think it looks like any of the centre backs will leave now and we have four good ones plus Dier so no

I wouldn't have thought so actually because they would be offered the option but wouldn't take it up, the fact that they can't take it up is irrelevant I reckon as Bournemouth can't be prevented from doing business because Chelsea have been sanctioned. As far as the player goes I'd be ok with him at Spurs.

Would also affect his freedom of movement

I think he would be a good Jan backup, allowing us to keep players in their best position, and all while he learns under Jan in his last year with us. He does the LCB role, and can play in a three at the back, plus an emergency LB if needed. I can see the up side in Toby going and bringing in Ake, not a direct replacement for the outgoing player, but gives us the left option we need. Especially with Sanchez and Foyth both preferring to play on the right.

Makes me wonder if Dier has had ‘the talk’ and has declined one of the CB roles, hence the talk again of Man Utd saying he is underrated or whatever it was Ole said.

Maybe. Or perhaps Dier has had the CB talk, and the club now requires a 2nd LCB more than it does a 4th RCB behind Dier, Sanchez, Foyth?

Could this be viewed as an upgrade on Davies?

He can play left back as well and as a DM. Basically a taller, quicker and stronger version of Davies. I like Davies but he’s sadly one of those players that doesn’t suit our game and/or what we need to evolve eg quick attack minded full backs

Davies is actually 1cm taller.

Ake is 180cm (5'11), but I get your point.

It would be especially smart planning if we got Sessegnon to eventually be a Left Back, and rotated both behind Rose (and Jan).

Though also a shame to loose Davies, as he seems a good character for squad unity.

Plays for himself. Not a team player.

Replacement for Vertonghen not a priority at the moment - far greater needs elsewhere in the team.

Suspect that this supposed interest in Ake is agent-driven...

Never seen Ake stand out defensively in a side that regularly gets 'dicked' away from home by good teams
If Toby goes we still have 5 cb options in the squad. Replacing Toby at same level would cost VVD level money, imo midfield is priority area for strengthening

Like that's ever been a problem for them, lol.

But in this case it would mean the player agreeing to wait a year for a move and not knowing who the manager will be when he does join. Considering he's already been burned at Chelsea once he might not be willing to take that risk.

That is a fair point and he may well feel burnt, but this is Chelsea and in a footballing world where money talks they very rarely have a problem getting what they want.

No way we replace toby directly, it'll be with a younger player. Also think you're being incredibly optimistic in saying we have 5 options at cb. Dier hasn't played there in 2-3 years and Dvies has never really played CB in a back 4. That really just leaves the three, of which only one (a 32 year old) is left footed.

Must be the hedge of top of his head that makes him look taller lol
