I know this is the Toby thread, but Jan also have only a year left on his deal.

We find ourself in a position where we have to replace Jan, Toby and Eriksen and upgrade on Trippier, Wanyama, Dier, Aurier, KWP, Janssen, and Lamela.

To much to do change, even if we keep Jan for his last year and have Dier sticking around.

I’ve got a feeling he himself doesn’t know what he wants.

There's certainly a shit ton of confusion with it. I've been saying for awhile that the situation doesn't make much sense. I.e. Toby has played extremely well, if not quite his "you shall not pass" best, and his relationship with Poch publicly looks the same as all our players. Given up trying to guess what's going on, but that's the same with Eriksen I suppose. Strange old year, but still extremely positive about where we're heading.

Honestly what the fuck is going on here? Initially I thought Toby was spinning us with PR but his recent passion and emotion has completely convinced me he’s not.

If Toby wants to stay now, and it’s Poch who wants him gone, Poch needs to realise we will not be able to adequately replace him.

Its the next step that we have taken and now we have to keep going. Not think: ‘Oh we are happy with the final and maybe in a couple of years [we’ll be back].’
"No, no. Next year we want to be here again.
"That’s the mentality, the philosophy we have in this group. To improve every season.
"And again with the new stadium, with the new vibe in the team, we’ll do good."

Talking about Toby confusion. Doesn't really sound like a man thinking of leaving. Others (Tripps) seemed to be more ambiguous on that front).

Edit: seems I was beaten to the punch!

Can’t know for certain but I really think Toby is playing a blinder of a PR game, making you lot think he actually cares

What leads you to believe he cares any less than our other players? Why would he need to play a PR game? He can just be ambiguous wait for offers and be gone....why would he need to stoop to PR games?

All I've seen is a player totally committed to playing in our shirt. Like any other player he gives interviews or comments on social media. Thats not spin. He has nothing to gain from it.

We're all free to believe what we want to believe. What does the club gain by knocking down and refusing to deal with it's best CB? What would Toby gain by throwing his prams out the window and dunking on the club? These are very very easy questions with very very obvious answers and none of them are conspiratorial.

Conspiratorial.....well i believe otherwise when you only hear one side of a story repeatedly. Last summer/season it was quoted as him having played his last game for us. No comeback for him etc.

I would describe it as more spin per se. I only judge a player by his performances on the pitch and Toby has been exemplary in his play & conduct.

Bored of his situation now. Great defender but obvious he's not going to extend so rather just sell him this summer and put the £25m towards our transfer kitty for this window rather than lose him for free in a years time.
