A lot of spurs fans wanted him last summer, what you on about?
yeah once they realised he was going to be the only realistic option, everyone starting gunning for him, before and at the start of the window opinions were different

Obviously not all fans are going to want same player, but there was definitely a large number of fans that wanted him last season and probably same people that want him now, so I don’t think it’s that crazy.

My wish list for this summer is a few good young British players e.g Grealish, RB at palace & Sess couple other good prospects around too.

And then some more experienced players to strengthen our first team/squad

Might cost 150+million but time is right to spend big and push on even more, it will also help keep key players with we have already.

Grealish is a great example of the subjective nature of value, and how it does not always equal "price".

For us, Grealish would likely have been a bit of a project, providing some depth and competition but unlikely to crack the top XI any time soon. So, not worth a large fee. Plus, we were in for DeJong. Paying a large fee for Grealish would either make us unable to afford DeJong, or make the fee a waste of money because signing DeJong would make Grealish redundant. Thus, an evaluation of $20-25M makes sense to us.

AV, however, was making a promotion push that's worth well north of $100M, and Grealish was their greatest asset. AV could reasonably conclude that $20-25M was unlikely to be enough to buy enough quality players able to integrate into the team to make up for Grealish's absence. So their evaluation of $40M+ makes sense.

Hindsight being 20/20, perhaps you could argue that Grealish really would have been worth $40M to us. We could have used the depth in midfield, and he has demonstrated the quality this past season that would have made the difference in a few games (and he is English). On the other hand, we finished top 4 and are in the CL final without him, and we now have the funds to make serious pushes for two genuine future star CMs, Lo Celso and Ndombele.

Fair call, I think I'll be happy with 'A' signing after the last two windows, have almost forgot the feeling of a new lad coming in (n)

Your right, last season I wasn’t to concerned we didn’t spend but this season is so different. We need quality & depth all over the pitch.

Crazy how badly people are after him now, weren't so keen last summer window...
Seems to me there's a lot of people don't want him this year, it'll be interesting to see if there's any "we should have bought hims" next year after a season in the Premier league.

Yep. Same thing happened when we were linked to Zaha. It's almost as if our scouts know a thing or two about spotting potential and the majority of SC haven't got a clue....

GREALISH TO RESIST SPURS ADVANCES

Aston Villa club captain, Jack Grealish, will turn down any further advances from Tottenham and stay at Villa Park this summer, Sky Sports News understands.

The lifelong Villa fan who joined the club aged six, has said he wants to be a focal point of their return to the Premier League, following Monday’s 2-1 victory over Derby in the Championship Play Off final.

Tottenham made as many as three bids of up to £25m for the midfielder last summer and remained front of the queue for Grealish had Villa lost at Wembley.

Following the arrival of Nassef Sawiris as Villa’s owner, Grealish signed a new five-year deal to stay at Villa Park last September.

Can you resist advances or reject a move if we're not making one? I imagine as soon as Villa got promoted we went ahead and scratched his name off the list.

Fair play to him, nothing better than seeing a local lad take responsibility for his team imo.

Grealish is ok but not exactly very exciting - we can do a lot better.

I don't even think we waited until they got promoted. I'm firmly of the believe that going for Grealish in the summer was more us seeing an opportunity to grab a bargain while Villa were in financial trouble. Once the new owners came in and the summer window closed, that was the end of our interest in him.
