Yeah I think Willey should have been retained for the different option he gives. Never going to be a remarkable bowler, might not be a starter, but gives you a left arm seamer and can get the white ball moving early on.

Really it should have been between Archer, Wood and Plunkett for those remaining spots. I like Archer but think actually has been quite fortunate, because I don't think his two/three audition appearances in the warm-ups screamed pick me and really did enough to dislodge anyone from the squad.

Archer was a stand-out performer in the IPL against top internationals trying to hit him out the park. He was picked on a lot more than a couple of games against Pakistan.

Having an opening pair who both bowl over 90 mph is a great weapon so of course Wood was going to get in.

We need a third spinner because Root is not good enough in this format and a back-up was required to Ali & Rashid. Had we retained Willey, along with Archer, Wood, Plunkett, Curran, Stoakes and Woakes that would make 7 fast / seamers, and that's too many.

It was between Plunkett, Curran and Willey, and whoever didn't make would have been unlucky, but there you go.

Eoin Morgan gone for X-ray on injured finger. Need him to be ok - he's been in good form, but more importantly his captaincy is irreplaceable.

Last final at HQ, really can't understand that decision!

Yep, then it's off to Trent bridge.

Lost a final to Hampshire a few years back on final ball. One day or Twenty 20, can't remember now.

What I can remember is that I'd backed Somerset at 8/1 (£20 wager) earlier in the season.

Payback is due baby. ;)

EDIT: Feck me, it's 9 years ago. The last ball and what ensued was all a bit comical really. Although I didn't find it funny at the time. £180 down the swanny.

Remember that one well, couldn't get tickets for love nor money and ended up writing to the ECB to vent my frustrations!

I've not gone to any of the finals. Lol, just as well, Somerset have been runners up in 10 competitions in the last 10 years.

I do get to watch Somerset a few times a season. Live only 9 miles from Taunton. Sometimes get a train over, 10 minute walk to ground, and have a bit of a drinky poos and catch an evening T20, pub and then Chinese fill yer face fat fecker buffet to finish before train back.

Of course, far more sensible when catching a one day 50 over match.

Somerset giving themselves a good chance against Hampshire. Currently Hampshire sit at 197-8 with 5 overs left.

Finally. Somerset win, first trophy since 2005.

Bowlers set us up with a good shout.

As for our batting...

Tom Banton opened and got us off to a very good start. Only 20 years old, but he's starting to live up to the hype, Edwards' balling for Hampshire might have been quick, but ended up leg side all too often in the opening exchanges.

But Banton didn't need an invitation, and twatted that ball time after time. I can see why many pundits are comparing him to one Kevin Pietersen.

Add to this the old stalwarts Trego and Hildreth coming in and producing their usual telepathic, rapid running between the wickets and we were well on our way.

Excellent effort.

Hampshire 244-8
Somerset 245-4

For those not aware of Tom Banton...

England with what is probably their shortest run chase in quite some time, have absolutely fluffed it. Poor.

Been watching Somerset. Did you watch the England match. I'm sure there'll be highlights, but I don't want to push my luck with 'petticoat control'.

Especially as I've got a couple more footie matches to cast my beady eyes over in the next 2 days.

I wouldn’t bother. It was an incredibly frustrating watch. Players getting set, making good starts then giving away wickets stupidly.

The tailenders spent the last three overs trying to ramp wide balls. So annoying.

Looks like England will have today's warm up game wrapped up in time to watch the play-off final
I know Morgan had his reasons but I’d have posted a total first, pretty much killed it as a spectacle when we put them in.
You’d be a bit narked off if you’d gone down there for a day out!
