Both matches will be a landmark occasion for the London trio and each side has been handed a boost by a rule change from UEFA, which allows each manager to name 12 substitutes.

Source: Football London

UEFA has now confirmed that the same rules are in effect for both showcase matches and a fourth substitution will also be permitted if either matches advances into extra time.

Why does it boost us 3 and not liverpool?

Because it's 'Football London' the article doesn't bother to mention the boost for Liverpool. It's a bit silly because arguably this rule change gives Liverpool an advantage over us given their greater squad depth.

Talk about overkill. What is the point of 12 substitutes when you can make 3 (or 4 in extra time) subs at most?

You can cover every position in 11, so managers would just end up naming 2 keepers on the bench "just in case" (although we'll probably end up with 6 fullbacks on the bench, 2 crocked midfielders, 2 CB's and 2 keepers...#gamechangers

I suppose for this game though it's good for Poch as he in all likelihood with our injuries and squad size won't have to tell players they're not involved. (however it will make it even worse if he just has to tell 1 or 2 that they're not gonna be involved at all :(

We can now have 1 attacker, 1 keeper and 10 defenders on the bench. Glorious.

It doesn't really make a difference though does it? I mean it's great that 5 more players can be more involved in this special occassion but that's all it is. The 7 subs would always be your best choices, any more than that will not feature anyway. It will be great to have some of the academy lads in there though.

It could potentially make a slight, slight difference, because it increases somewhat the chances of having the *right* substitute on the bench depending on how the matches evolves. Sometimes you'll have picked a bench that was all wrong because during the match you see that you would have needed somebody who is not there.

Well that's just poor squad selection. 7 subs is plenty enough to ensure you're covered for all scenarios.

Yet another rule change to help the richer clubs same as in FA Cup.
How the fuck does that help anyone without a multimillion pound squad?
Just means the coach of the rich club has less thought to put in. Can just sit and watch game develop and adjust accordingly. Things like this piss me off.

if they had some brains.... they would have a condition of a max of 12 players, in which a maximum of 7 can be over 21. allowing 5 additional young players a chance on the bench.

that would be interesting. maybe teams will gamble with 1 goalkeeper being a youth player and having 7 seniors as outfielders. but its a chance for young players to feel what it's like playing on the big stage. might inspire them to want it more.

they seem to be encouraging "big squads" should be the other way around.

I think it's a great idea as teams can involve the whole squad of players who might have been involved on the way to the final rather than leaving them out having trained the last few weeks.
